Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Not a steady downpour, but we're mighty wet.

Good morning.... thanks.
She is still holding in there this morning!

I heard last night that the People's Republic of Charlottesville has declared itself a "city for peace," which I guess means that the city council, or whatever they have, has come out for Saddam.
I can't figure out whether the people are really dumb or really evil, I am guessing that there are alot of really dumb sheep following alot of really evil leftists.
Glad that I came from a rural area c. 15 miles south of the PRC, I can be a little less embarassed. I'm still angry and ashamed about the behavior of the nearest "large" town. 'Course it's kind of getting like NY south in there, these days.

Good morning Saturday hobbits! Well, my cable (now Comcast) is out and I am on dial up.
When things go wrong, I want a live person, I like to call. Gonna call them in a bit. Since the sale of AT&T broadband a couple weeks ago, I have had nothing but trouble, periodic extreme slow, periodic not working at all (like now), and periodic working just fine. I don't know if they are having bugs from the switch or what, but it is making me nuts. When my 21.6 dialup connection seems "good", then you know it is bad.

Hi Hair.
I am sorry about Zulu, it is sad to lose an old loyal friend. I am sort of amazed, though, you have the longest lived dogs I ever heard of, it says alot about the care they get, probably.
To: HairOfTheDog
Good Morning! Give Zulu a pat for me.
I usually get 49666 on my dialup....if it holds a connection at all.

I can't figure out whether the people are really dumb or really evil... Prolly really dumb and a little evil. Reminds me of an old joke tho...
A Virginia Tech student was at the University of Virginia doing research. He saw a UVA senior standing on the lawn and said, "Can you tell me where the library is at?" The UVA student replied, "Sir, at Mr. Jefferson's University we do not use prepositions to end our sentences."
The Hokie responded, "Well, in that case, Can you tell me where the library is at, @$$hole?"
Sorta sums up my feelings about UVA and Charlottesville...;-)
But the fact that you're from nearby gives me new hope!
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm on Comcast too, Hair. Glenn Beck says Comcast is the anti-Christ.
But our TV cable didn't go out.
To: Sam Cree
They have had good care, but I think it is just luck of the genes. Zulu went 13 years without aging at all... When she turned 14 and was still exactly the same I began to think she was an alien droid-dog or something sent here to spy on me!
But she had the corn oil overdose that aged her 5 years in a week. and then later a bad ear infection. She has never been the same since that. The corn oil incident probably did a lot of damage to her liver and kidneys.
I am surprised Logan is still doing sortof well. As a large dog, and a purebred, I wouldn't have bet on more than 14 good years from him. My childhood Labrador lived to be 16, and he was more arthritic by then than Logan is now. Better drugs out there now for Arthritis probably lengthens their lives quite a bit. He has lumps and bumps all over the place, but I don't think they cause him trouble.
To: Overtaxed
I gave Zulu a pat for you. She was asleep. Now she is ticked off that I woke her up ;~D
To: Corin Stormhands
My cable TV is fine, just the internet is out.
My cable modem is just flashing like a car wreck scene.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oops!
To: Corin Stormhands
I believe you are right that UVA has gotten very "liberal" these days, not surprising, I guess, since they think of themselves as sort of honoraray Ivy League jerks. It's all very discouraging.
Thanks.
You know, it's kind of funny, I think of myself as a Virginian, since I was born here, but my family is really from NYC, we just came here in the 1920's. I live in Miami, but VA is still my home.
I wonder if g'nad liked Gods and Generals, I could use a dose of something positive about Virginians.

"Zulu went 13 years without aging at all..."
Sounds kind of like Bilbo...
To: Overtaxed
Yeah - she's a grumpy old bat, but a good old bat.
To: HairOfTheDog
My cable modem is just flashing like a car wreck scene. Yeah, that's where we were. The help desk geek walked me through uninstalling and re-installing the card. So we're back, just not "normal."
You should have a number to call on your bill. I'd call 'em 'cause that sounds like more than just a normal "outage."
To: Sam Cree
It was kinda like Bilbo... and it creeped us out! - It wasn't natural, and we thought no good would come of it.
To: Corin Stormhands
re-installing what card? (do I have a card?) ;~D
To: Sam Cree
To be a Virginian
either by Birth, Marriage, Adoption,
or even on one's Mother's side
is an Introduction to any State in the Union,
a Passport to any Foreign Country,
and a Benediction from Above.
You're a Virginian Sam. I'm glad you're with us.
