Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Have you ever seen him in concert? I got to see him with the Phoenix Symphony once (they played "Wachet Arf", the Hindenburg Concerto, and the Concerto for Bassoon vs. Orchestra. I think the only time I have laughed harder was the first time I saw The Holy Grail. Saw him with Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra last year too. Only half of that concert was P.D.Q., though - they played Art of the Ground Round and Oedipus Tex.

I was watching the news for a little while this morning, but just couldn't take it any more. Such a horrible tragedy.

My wife was almost there last night. Her friend had asked her on Monday if she wanted to go. Jess initially said yes, but then I found out Tuesday that I had to stay late to work with some of the night students on Thursday. So, she decided not to go. Thankfully.
Man...this is just bad all over.

That reminds of advice that Dear Abby gave someone who wanted to be a doctor. His family was opposed because it would take 10 years and he would be 50. Abby said, "so what, you're going to be 50 in 10 years anyway."

The battle is going well... almost done with my 2nd quarter. Yeah! Got my classes for the spring quarter already. Heavy load that will be, but I will just have to stuck it up. Hebrew is coming along. Arabic is coming along. Learning, learning, learning...
