Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

These copies I have are exact replicas of the 1920s versions...even the typos and commercial ads in the back are included! Very interesting reading at times. Just the vernacular is so strange! They are put out by Applewood books and the boys just love them. Matthew sits on his top bunk with his legs dangling listening so hard! Joshua seems to loose interest at times, but still follows what is going on.

Sounds like a good day!
We call that drink a fuzzy naval around these parts... did you put an umbrella in it?
To: Sam Cree
Hullo Sam!
To: HairOfTheDog
Nope, no umbrellas.
To: ecurbh
It's an umbrella drink!
To: ecurbh
This is the one I'm reading to them now...this exact copy. Even the artwork on the front is a reproduction. Apparently a man had a collection with the actual covers on them and they copied the covers.

Is that "Fuzzy Naval" or "Fuzzy Navel"?
To: ecurbh
Hmmm.... you are right.... it is a "fuzzy Navel"

So, the boys sleep in bunk beds, 2J?
When my twin brother and me were very little, like 5, we slept in them, I had the top. Every night, I put my hand down and his up, we held hands 'til we fell asleep, as twins, we were pretty close. We are not young anymore, but still remember that well.
I fell out of the damn thing a few times, in my sleep, woke up in mid air, on the way to the floor, rolling unbelievably fast down the ladder. This was before everyone thought to sue each other all the time.

Hi, Hair, was just thinking about you. How are the ponies? My nephew's lab is apparently turning into a good retriever, they went bird hunting recently and said she did good, she's just under a year old, I think.
To: Corin Stormhands
"Let me know next time you're in town."
OK, I will, I will look forward to it, shouldn't be too long, I hope.
To: Sam Cree
I'll go in there now and then and find Matthew down in the bottom bunk with Joshua, head to head, sleeping. I just leave them.
Did you ever see this picture of them sleeping? They were in my bed, because we were working and banging in the bathroom and it was making Joshua anxious...I told Matthew to go in and keep him company. I think this is just the sweetest picture. Matthew still sleeps with his Huevo.

The ponies are good! They are starting to shed out, so Spring is coming!
I wonder if I will get another hunting dog sometime.... I would assume I will. I have a lot of different types of dogs I would like to own.
I am torn, I have always had a Labrador, but I think a German Shepherd is next. I know this breeder well. He trains world class Schutzhund and police dogs. His puppies sell for $1800 though (link). Heh.... once in awhile he gets an adult back for hardship reasons. maybe I will just get on his list for those.
To: HairOfTheDog
Good night all! Steve should be home pretty soon.
I've enjoyed the quiet chat!

Good night 2J!
To: 2Jedismom
Yes, that is a really cut picture of the boys, 2J!

I think a good shepherd is a wonderful dog. My brothers and me had one when we were school kids, that dog was so loyal, nobody could get near us if their intentions were not good. He was very smart, very loyal, very loving and very fierce. We loved him.
Good night everyone.
To: Sam Cree
They are very alert. His dogs have such a *presence* about them.
Good night!
