Thanks for your take on TTT.
I'll check in tomorrow if I can. :)
Hair, what time did ecurbh finally get finished up last night? Or should I say, this morning? *grin*
Becky's were high and shrill, just like that.
By 3 o'clock this afternoon, right? (Just kidding!)
It is quite an involved process...
No doubt! I was intimidated by it.
stay tuned!
Will do! Let me know if I can assist in any way.
I've got to get some sleep. See you tomorrow, Hair.

Good night, to all of my dear Hobbit Hole friends!
Safe journey to those on the road, peace to the hearts of those who are troubled and comfort to those who are weary.
Here's a nightlight.

Words simply fail me in my search for a description about how much I admire the art of this movie. Like everyone else here, I see very clearly where the move (like FotR before it) strayed from the text. But even more than in FotR, I see the reasons why these variances were necessary.
I predicted beforehand that TTT would be the greatest fantasy/adventure movie of all time. Part of that prediction came from my own personal taste -- TTT has always been my favorite portion of the trilogy, and as a result I believed it would make the most convincing movie presentation. After seeing the movie, I do believe it surpasses the other great movies of this genre -- but also, I now think that we have been set up for a finale that is likely to surpass everything we have seen thus far.
With the exception of a few examples of modern indulgence (such as the Legolas snowboard down the stairs at Helm's Deep, or the Arwen dream sequences) we were presented with a near perfect rendition, on the silver screen at any rate, of the essential story in TTT.
To counter-balance those pieces we had moments like Legolas' magnificent mounting of the horse in the battle with the scouts before Helm's Deep. (An event that left my wife literally breathtaken -- such a swift moment, but so powerful in its expression of the abilities and characteristics of elves).
I am most amazed by the presentation of the part of TTT that least affected me in the book: The journey of Frodo and Sam through the marshes to the Black Gate. Here, the character of Smeagol draws the greatest attention (rightfully so), but I do believe we see the most poignant portrayal of Frodo and Samwise -- a credit to the actors. As a man, the great pursual and battle scenes thrill me, but as a thinking man, the psychological struggles of the strange trinity of Frodo, Sam and Smeagol keep drawing me to that less physical and more spiritual battle. They steal the show, even from the great battles of Helm's Deep and Isengard.
The Ents absolutely captivated my wife (who has not the read the books) -- though the battle of Isengard disappointed me just a little (I bet the director's cut is better, and I know what Hair means when she says that she can see where the dialogue was edited out). But my wife thought that was spectacular -- so we can see what PJ was up to in creating a movie that would to those not intimate with the books.
I have much more to say about this movie -- but I will let it go for now (it's late and this post is ridiculously long already).
The only ones I noticed on their own were teenagers and they were pretty well behaved. But then, this was at a sold-out show on opening day so chances are that they're Tolkien freaks. :)
I have no idea when the official DVD(s) are going to be released but I expect someone will tell us.
So let it be known to Marylanders and the entire east coast that REGAL CINEMAS does not empower their managers to engage in quality control, nor do they hire vertebrates. In contrast LOWE'S CINEMAS fell all over itself when we went to see Die Another Day by giving us coupons for free sodas when we had to stand in line to enter the theater and wait for the slackers they hired to finish cleaning the theater. It was fantastic service and their seats were more comfortable!
