The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hehehe...it's nice when you get to dish it out, isn't it?Absolutely! I didn't want things to happen this way, but I need to do what's right for me and my family. I'd only been there 6 weeks, so really, I don't owe them anything in terms of loyalty.
Good luck on the KC situation. I'm sure the right path will present itself when the time is right.
To: ItsOurTimeNow
I don't know what the deal is...of course these decisions seem to take a while to be made over here.
To: Overtaxed
lol...don't worry, it's not just you. It seems that companies everywhere have serious decision-making problems. In all the years I've done high-tech sales and recruiting, it makes me ill that the higher-ups can take months to make a simple decision.
Just be glad you don't have to deal with law firms. They're the worst. I was working a deal with a law group up in Boston, and it took them 3 and a half months to decide if they even wanted to send out an RFP for their project. Then it took them 2 more months to complete the RFP and send it out to me. I sent them a quote within a week, and they debated the quote for SIX FULL MONTHS! Meeting after meeting, and of course, they can't decide anything without a unanimous board decision, so they had to wait until the ENTIRE board was able to meet at the same time.
In the end, after nearly a year of stalling, I lost the bid to a competitor.
The deciding difference. $100 in price. I kid you not.

LOL! These people put off the site selection decision decision at least twice. Anyway...even if I don't go to KC, they'll need people to shut this place down through July and maybe August. I should be able to find something here by then.

Good morning!
Seamus - big congrats on getting the job you wanted! As for your ex-boss...well that's water under the bridge now. Doesn't matter what he thinks!
Oh...and yeah, chocolate pretzels are the best! I like the white chocolate ones, too. Mmmmm...
Now for some coffee...
To: RosieCotton
don't get me started on the white chocolate ones! I'll eat a whole bag of the "Flips" before I realise they're gone.
Wal-Mart also makes some great peanut-butter filled, chocolate covered pretzel chunks.
To die for!
To: ItsOurTimeNow
Wal-Mart also makes some great peanut-butter filled, chocolate covered pretzel chunks.Ooh. I haven't seen those! Have to check next time I'm there.
For awhile Hershey's was making chocolate covered pretzel "Bites" things - like those Kit-Kat and Reese's Bites? They had both milk and white chocolate kinds. I think they might have been a limited edition sort of thing, though, just for the Christmas season.

"This is a very unprofessional thing to do, since you've only been with us for 6 weeks", assorted curses and rants, then he hangs up on me. (and what *I* did was unprofessional?)Most places of employment have a trial period...usually what? 90 Days? Where they can ask you to leave or you can leave, no questions asked.
This guy sounds very unprofessional.

Wha?? :( Sorry. That didn't sound very nice did it?
As my wife told our choir director last night, "Corin's not here because he has a sinus infection, can't hear....and he's grumpy."
To: ItsOurTimeNow
I'd love to do this every day...it brings me such peace.Isn't it great?

Good morning! I have only a few minutes to drink a cup of coffee, then I have to take the boys to the dentist.

Most places of employment have a trial period...usually what? 90 Days? Where they can ask you to leave or you can leave, no questions asked. Most places, yes. Here, it's six months; the other place I was interviewing for it was 90 days. If someone isn't happy in a position, they aren't going to do their best work...and even the best places / people aren't always going to be a perfect fit for one another. So why he blew up like that is beyond me! Good riddance, I'd say!
To: Corin Stormhands
As my wife told our choir director last night, "Corin's not here because he has a sinus infection, can't hear....and he's grumpy." And she came home and told you this?
Methinks Mrs. Corin is either very brave or very foolish...;-)
I skipped choir, too. I'm a baaad hobbit. I'm going to quit one choir, though. At this point, I have three "gigs" (man I hate that word!) coming up, plus community choir and the Friday jam we always go to...and not a single night off during the week. It's too much, and that's the easiest thing to cancel. Just haven't called the choir director yet.
To: RosieCotton
I'm going to quit one choir, though. I'm not quitting, but I don't think I'm going to do our Palm Sunday and Easter concerts this year. They're just during the regular services on those Sundays, but there's at least four weeks of extra weekend rehearsals.
I'm still "in recovery" from Christmas, plus I have too much work to do around the house in the spring.
To: Corin Stormhands
*yawn!* I'm up! I'm up!
So, have we been attacked yet? Do I still have time to stock up on plastic & duct tape company stocks?

Well, it is comforting to have friends here who have had their world shake up on them recently and came through it not only OK, but in some cases better.
I am about to have a lot of things happen. I am not happy with what I am doing, and I am not sure I am in the right mood for my check-in with the boss in Seattle, but I have to go anyway. The only thing I know for sure is that I have to make a change. I am tired of being a sell-out in what I do, and I am not benefiting personally from working at home anymore. I am in the dream situation for a parent, not for a single person. I am in the job of a liberal, not a conservative. What I am doing is not worthless, but I don't love it enough to feed it and make it healthy either. I need to do something different, anything different. I need to get out more, and live more. A new job would force me to do that. I am on the verge of an epiphany, and the only thing I know is that my life will be different very soon. I wish I could see how it will all turn out. I am scared right now.
To: ksen
I think I would like to go into the business of selling duct tape.
To: RosieCotton
Don't hate the word "gig". Cool people have "gigs".
To: HairOfTheDog
It just doesn't seem to fit most styles of music...I think jazz, blues or rock. And we aren't getting paid for any of the things we're playing for, either, so they aren't really "gigs".
I don't like the word "jam", either...same goes for that!
Re: your job situation...I'll keep you in my prayers.
To: HairOfTheDog; Scott from the Left Coast
I hear there's an opening down where Scott used to work.....
