The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Did you listen to the clip of Simon Tolkien that you posted?
His Dad, Christopher, sounds like kind of a jerk.

I'm logging off now. This place is getting weird. My posts aren't showing up in "My Comments" and when I click on the thread I posted about TTT being snubbed by the Oscars, all the posts don't show up on my screen.......

Deaf in one ear and you can still play the whistle... We're getting way too familiar in this place. I'm on my third day of antibiotic for a sinus infection. I can't hear out of my left ear.
This morning I wake up with the "Swallowtail Jig" playing in my head.
As if the ringing wasn't bad enough...;-)

Good morning sleepyheads!

I'm logging off now. This place is getting weird. But hey, at least after this Freepathon it took two weeks for things to get weird...

Good morning! [sip] need coffee.
Is this place back to normal?
I did listen to that Tolkien clip, I told you it was kind of sad! It really is sad when families have that much go wrong that fathers and sons can't speak for years.

I'm up, I'm up!
Jen - I know exactly the anxiety you're feeling, regarding impending danger and taking precautions. Don't fret, you're not alone.
Ksen - by far, that was the best impression of Byrd I've ever seen, kudos!
2JM - I'm hoping that your impending cold is just a minor one. Take some zinc! lol
Hair - Awesome hi-res pics from TTT. Thanks for posting!
Rosie - a 72 hour chocolate kit would only last me about 4 hours. Chocolate and pretzels are my main vices. God Bless the man that thought of chocolate-covered-pretzels! The best of both worlds!
News from the Mark - Through an amazing turn of events, I've got the next two days off. The HR director of the school I was interviewing with (for the Career Counselor position) called me back yesterday afternoon and offered me the job. $5k more a year than what I was making before, full health program, including dental, dermatology and chiropractic (I had none of these with the recruiting company), and a shorter work-week. Really, this was no hard decision for me to accept their offer.
So, I tell them I'll take it, and I call my boss in Hartford to give my notice, offering to stay through the end of next week, should he require it. He flips out on me. "I don't understand how you can do this to me", "You're really leaving me in a lurch here", "This is a very unprofessional thing to do, since you've only been with us for 6 weeks", assorted curses and rants, then he hangs up on me. (and what *I* did was unprofessional?)
He calls me back a few minutes later, and tells me to make today (yesterday) my last day, to clean out my desk, and give the keys to the other recruiter (who is about 3 weeks away from giving her notice as well).
So, alls well that ends well, I guess. Even though I offered to stay through the week, and he told me to leave yesterday, they're not paying me for today and tomorrow. So, I end up losing a couple hundred bucks, but I'll more than make up for it next month.
Plus, I get two extra days off to spend with my wife and daughter...and you just can't put a price tag on that!

Haven't fed the ponies yet, I am up early because I have to go to Seattle today though...

Congratulations on the new job! And the extra two days off! ;~D

Happy endings are good!
I still can't get over how much of a jerk my (now-ex) boss was yesterday.
Some people...

I have to go to Seattle today though...Be on your guard, there are older and fouler things than anarchist hippies in the deep places of Seattle.

Morning All! Another deep-freeze day in the people's republik.
Hubby finished up our emergency plans last nite in true Army style. Crisp wording, paragraphs indicated with letters and numbers, appendices, etc. When he called me at work yesterday, I was expecting a list of items to pick up, but he said, "Other than batteries, we're all set!" Such a relief. My pack-rat tendancy coupled with DIY and camping supplies, and my Western "be prepared" mentality seems to have paid off. I hope to never have to find out if it is sufficient. Anyhoo, this FReeper household is ready for anything.
Haj ends today, right?

And the extra two days off!Autumn and I have an appointment with a snowcastle in a few hours! She got new snowpants yesterday, and has been dying to try them out. The extra 2 inches of powder we got yesterday should make for good building-snow.
Right now, it's a whopping 10 degrees, so we're going to wait a bit before we venture out...see if it gets a bit warmer. So, she's content with eating her Cheerios and watching one of her "Wiggles" movies while we wait for the weather to improve.
I'd love to do this every day...it brings me such peace.
To: ItsOurTimeNow
Hehehe...it's nice when you get to dish it out, isn't it?
Haven't heard anything on the KC front lately....think I'll be doing a resume this weekend.
To: Lil'freeper
Haj ends today, right?I think it ends tomorrow. I've been holding out with the belief that if anything does happen, it'll happen tomorrow. A lot of people will be out and about, restaurants, movies, hotels, etc...plus, it co-incides with the end of their holiday, and it's a special day for us, being Valentine's day and all.
I hope I'm wrong, but if I were a bettin' man, I'd put my money on tomorrow.
Admittedly, we're only slightly prepared. We've got some extra food & water, batteries for the flashlight and radio, but we haven't gone all out. We live down in Charlestown, which for those who don't know, is a hole-in-the-wall beach/fishing community. Very rural. Somehow I don't think Al-Quaeda would see my town as a very important target, unless they wanted the symbolism of disrupting our quahogging. LOL
