Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The alternate test is just like the other test, just different questions. I was going to say "You watch, he'll come in here with a 100%" but just as I was going to type it, he brought it here. Now wasn't that quick?
And guess what he made?

I always read your breakfast posts. It is a great way to keep up to date when you only have time to skim the Hobbit Hole.

So you are saying he got to re-take a test because he spaced and got a B instead of 100%?
To: 2Jedismom

Was over on the live thread listening to Byrd filibuster! What's the Grand Dragon saying today?
To: HairOfTheDog
How is his dog doing? ;-)
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, mainly because he spaced. The silly mistakes were a result of just not taking seriously what he was doing. It's annoying when the kid is so good and fast and just goofs off.
I'll spend hours going over something with him if he doesn't know it...will work and work to help him learn it. But when he adds something instead of subtracting..something he's known forever, since first grade, just because he doen't read the directions...well, my philosphy is "Do it till you get it right".
The thing is, he could have waited till tomorrow to retake the test. He had the choice. But I considered his school day "unfinished" until that test was re-done. When school is finished, there is unlimited (almost) computer time or TV time. So, he would have had to have waited to watch any TV or play on his computer. It was his choice to go in there and do it again. He finished quickly, correctly and is now happily playing Galactic Battlegrounds behind me!
If he works hard, and makes mistakes...that's another story. If he doesn't goof off, and makes a few mistakes, well, everyone's human. It was the goofing off when he should have been working that really got me...because when he's taking those tests, we all basically "shut down" so he can concentrate. That gets old when someone is just goofing off.
This is 1/10th of his math grade...serious business.

Wha Ah haven't been thet suhprised since ole Tommy Joe came up to mah place back in the 40's and tole me thet the black folk in town actually wanted to vote in the next election. Ah mean, who do they think they are? Americans? Oh for the good ole days that my Pappy used to.......what's that red laght in your recorder?
Anyway, Buddy sez to me, don't let that Estrada fella git to the bench. He has no business on the DC bench. Wha the back of his shirt is prolly still damp, if you know what ah mean. We let him on and the next thing you know we'll be letting more wimmin on the bench, and then who'll do the cookin'?
Ah better git now, ah'm gettin' a bit too tahred to talk anymore.
Hey! Teddy! Get away from those staff girls and git on ovuh heah and take your turn at this filibustuh!

I'm very interested in the charcoal filter alternative you posted. Any idea of the source of that?
To: ksen
You know, you're just good enough at that to scare me a little...
To: John Farson; Corin Stormhands; RMDupree
Byrd told us about his amazement about a gadget called a television being invented, and waxed about the glory of the Grand old Oprey.
He added up all the days since the birth of Jesus.
And he shouted about the haunting silence in the chamber!
To: Corin Stormhands
You know, you're just good enough at that to scare me a little...It's from hanging out with all you southerners. In fact, I've even started referring to THAT war as the War of Northern Aggression.
