The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That's not much of a hurricane.

Yeah, I know. Then there's the talk about duct tape and tarps to seal up your windows and doors.

Maybe it's silly? I dunno yet.

Jr. came home yesterday with a form and a request to host a French exchange student for two weeks in April. Under normal circumstances, maybe. But with my m-i-l moving in and the work we have to do the house will be in turmoil (okay we always are, but that's not the point). Plus since he's flunking French, I'm certainly not going to reward him.

But I told the Mrs. last night that I seriesly doubt that middle school students from France will be flying to the U.S. in April.

I plan on getting a bunch of supplies either today or tomorrow, just in case. I'll mostly be concentrating on diapers, snack foods, baby foods and water, along with toilet paper and plenty of Advil, Pepto, Tums and Nyquil. Outside of that, anything goes!

I doubt that plastic lining duct taped to your windows would help in the event of a biological or chemical attack, because by the time you realize an attack has been made, you've been exposed to it already!

Minnesota doesn't look so bad now, does it?

Seriously, there was an article in our daily paper today about the same issue, and outlining the basics you should have on hand for at least 3 to 4 days, including "plastic sheeting and duct tape" to seal yourself in and protect from chemical and biological agents.

Can you say "End Times", anybody?

LOL! I'd tape a picture of the "cheese eating surrender monkey" to the form and send it back to the teacher with a "HECK NO!" on it, just to see the reaction. *grin*

If I remember my radioactive stuff correctly, that'll stop only alpha radiation. As for chemicals or biologicals, I dunno if tarps and duct tape are going to be tight enough.

Yeah, I think that's where I am. Have a decent supply of stuff on hand, but not overkill.

I'd never be able to seal off our house anyway. Heck, I still don't have the storm windows back on upstairs!

I figure in that case, we'd head to the hills to my mom's house. From here, that's about as remote as I can get.

Grrr...I really think I'll just read who won on the net the next day.

I'll watch the Oscars only because I like Steve Martin and he's hosting. I liked last time he hosted because he kept getting in some good digs at the people there. ;^)

Not yet! I've only finished nine of the Left Behind books....(I know they're crap, I just can't help it).

But seriesly, that's when I think it becomes a matter of faith. Do I panic and try to do everything myself? Or do I consider the swallows and the lilies of the field and trust God to take care of us?

LOL! I'd love to do that. But the last thing we need to do right now is piss-off any of Jr's teachers!

In all seriousness, I think the most heartbreaking thing for me personally is that my girls haven't had a chance to live yet. I refuse to be all doom and gloom, but the reality is that the Bible has it all laid out already and it looks frighteningly familiar.

Oh that's right! Dang it...I'll probably watch it too then. I like him as well!

My dream host for the Oscars would be Conan :-D

Hey, but if the end of the world is upon us, it won't really matter if Jr's teachers get ticked, right?

*laughing*

We'll all be OK. We'll all get through this trying time. And we'll all be in each company in less than one year's time.

I think so too. But I also think we've lost some of the "edge" we had after 9/11. I think we're a little more complacent.

We've never really known war on our home turf. I don't think it will happen everywhere in the U.S., but I think we'll see some things on this side of the Atlantic.

Having said that, even though we've become a nation of slugs, I think it's in our make-up as Americans to rise to the occasion.

I was being halfway facetious about the "End Times" thing. I believe it is not for us to know the times or seasons which the Lord has ordained.

I am not a big fearmonger. But I don't think it is a bad idea to live our lives as if it were the "end times", for, in a sense, it is always the "end times". That means living each day to the fullest and loving those near and dear to you while you can...

I'd be like the guy on the beef commercial. When he sees the giant asteroid headed for earth, he drives to the grocery store for a steak and has one last cookout.
