Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

G'nad - you are a very fine looking bunch there. Fine family. Nice scenery. i think i could kayak on your creek back there.
To: g'nad
Cute kids, g'nad! Your daughter is lovely. I haven't seen pictures of your wife, but Hair says she's Galadriel like...looks like Rebecca takes after her?
Are they getting really excited about their new brother?
To: Overtaxed
Definitely! 2nd breakfast it is! This weekend I got busy in the kitchen too. Made some old family favorites that aren't normal run-of-the-mill stuff. I'll share.
Taquitos. these are NOT like whataburger stuff. there're like my south Texas Grama made.
rumigrot. MMmm great for cold days. I think ya'll up north is the hellish cold need this.
hunting cake... I think Beorn's honey cake was like this.
And salsa, homemade bean dip and of course tortilla chips.
maybe not breakfast food. but it's warm-you-up-food.

can't get the missus to take one... may have to use the mirror technique like Bart Simpson...
To: Corin Stormhands
ksen is still waiting for his OTHER pic tho... you ain't foolin' us corin, we know who's really looking for the other photo.
To: g'nad
Nice looking kids, g'nad! And you're not so bad-looking yourself. :)
To: Wneighbor
why thank you ma'am... I've used a canoe on the Chop to access duck blinds...
there are so many birds (ducks, geese, swans, herons, gulls, etc...) that you can practically walk across and not get your feet wet...
To: Wneighbor
What are Taquitos and rumigrot?

(I don't usually go for old frog food.)

Rebecca has the look of her mother... Thanks!
They are getting excited... Jake is already pickin' out "cool toys" for his little brother... which is a big deal cuz at first he didn't want nuthin' to do with a baby...
To: Overtaxed
Thanks OT...now cut that out...yer makin' me blush...
To: g'nad
Now, that sounds cool. I keep getting info about these kayaking/fishing or kayaking/duck hunting combo excursions. I think I'd like to try one of those someday. I've carried on a little fishing from my kayak in the creeks around home... but you realize creeks in central Texas don't look like that creek in your photo. But, I'm not sure about this duck hunting/kayaking. Sounds unstable. But, intriguing enough to make me want to check it out.

I didn't stay up for the rodeo show. Wonder when he's going to Richard Petty's Driving School.Considering he's the writer and producer of the show, too, he can send himself off to anywhere that they will take him. I like the eps where he has his "Conquest combat team" with him. They've been archers, axmen, knights, peasants, etc. They obviously spent a lot of money getting them fitted with all that gear.
I'd like to see him link up with some sort of re-enactment group and have his gang become infantry or cavalry.
I don't know why, but these oddball British shows are appealing to me. Junkyard Wars and its spinoffs are good, although I know they cheat like hell in Junkyard Wars.
To: g'nad; Corin Stormhands
Thanks for the pics g'nad. That's a fine looking family you got there. No wonder you're so proficient in the deadly arts. You got some precious people to defend.
And I hope you noticed that I am not the one lobbying for a picture of your naked butt......

I like the combat teams too. I liked the one when they were trying to make their own bows and arrows.

ha ha. native food.
Taquitos. Mexican breakfast. soft warm fresh homemade flour tortilla, filled with highly seasoned egg, potato, sausage, bacon mixture and topped with cheese and salsa. MMMMmmmm.
rumigrot. Norwegian. it's a hot, sweet, thick sort of pudding-like thing. Made with heavy cream that's heated and thickened with flour. Dried fruits and/or rice are added. It's a real cold day kind of treat.
To: g'nad
Is Jake your boy's given name? Our youngest is Jacob and we call him Jake......or Jakey if we want to get him riled up. ;^)

That sounds okay, then....as long as there's no lutefish in the rumigrot.
To: Wneighbor
Yuh don't hunt from the canoe, cuz yer right, it's too unstable... they have blinds here that you climb into... you canoe to them, ground your canoe and camouflage it, and hunt from the blind...
This is where the creek meets the Potomac, so it's wider here and is actually tidal... you try pullin' against the tide you got work ahead of yuh...
To: Overtaxed
as long as there's no lutefish in the rumigrotwell, even your mention of that almost made me toss my cookies this morning. ugh. nothing sounds good now. rotted food.
Guaranteed! None of that in anything I make.... or even in my house for that matter!
To: g'nad
you canoe to them, ground your canoe and camouflage it, and hunt from the blindI had wondered about that. The brochures I get are from this place down on the coast. So, it's actuallly hunting in some of the coastal tidal places. (thoughts in my head include - salt water, shotgun, corrosion, waves tossing kayak, ummm...) sounds challenging... and therefore, intriguing. things like that get me into situations I ought to have stayed out of sometimes. But I'll probably have to try it someday. And I'll have a great time but probably only do it once.
