The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

There was a little bit of this white stuff on the ground this morning...Sorry, but the only white stuff on the ground around here is this:

(congrats on the jeep Lil'Freeper!)
To: ksen
I heard it's warmer right now in anchorage than it is in Dallas...
To: g'nad
Agreed. In my compound's parking lot they "plowed four inches ago", so it wasn't as bad. Just deep everywhere. :) I do love the crunch-crunch of snow under tires, tho.
To: Lil'freeper
We got 12" here, so if you ain't got an SUV or a truck, yer gonna have a hard time gettin into parkin' spot... what are these people thinkin?...

Good morning! I've been running around getting some things done in one of the computer labs before the students overrun it. Got most of it done...
I want four wheel drive! I don't absolutely HAVE to have it as there's really nowhere I have to do where I can't take a less direct route and avoid the worst roads...but it sure would be nice. Maybe not an SUV, but those AWD cars sure are tempting. Don't give you much clearance is the only trouble...and for any of the back roads here, clearance is a very good thing.
I'll probably drive my Toyota until it falls apart, though, and spend all extra income on music related toys...

hey Rosie, good to see you...
everybody needs a truck, darlin'...

Just measured and we have 8" in here. 3 people have made it in now. Heh heh heh...
To: Lil'freeper
Ooops, make that four! Mr. Clippy made it in (long story made short: Irritating know-it-all who pops up at the worst time just to give you helpful hints) and started with his blonde and lawyer jokes. Haven't heard a blonde lawyer joke yet, but this morning's fare was a Star Trek joke: What do you get when you cross a Klingon with a Betazoid? Someone who can feel your pain while he beats the crap out of you!
We managed to force a polite chuckle at that one. *sigh*
To: RosieCotton
and for any of the back roads here, clearance is a very good thing.OTOH a low riding car will get you under trees and downed powerlines.
To: g'nad
I want a Toyota Tacoma Xtra cab 4x4. I'm just a little over $20k short, though.
To: Lil'freeper
whut's a betazoid?... wait... don't bother...

4wd is awesome, but those 'smart' traction systems rock, too. Big_ol' just reported in on his drive to DC. Nasty roads all the way down, but no slipping.

Yuh ever try battin' yer eyelashes at a used truck dealer?...

LOL - car limbo? Have to be VERY low riding to get under that tree!
To: g'nad
I doubt it would get me THAT big of a discount! If only...
And of course, my younger siblings want me to get a minivan.
To: g'nad
It is a race of telepaths/empaths. One of the TNG crew members was "half" Betazoid and spent the first few seasons melodramatically gushing "I feel pain....suffering....lonliness..." accompanied by constipated facial expressions and the occasional fainting episode.
To: RosieCotton
We managed to get a fantastic deal on the new Jeep 'cause it is a standard transmission. And none of the snobs around here (uber suburbia) will stoop so low as driving a "stick". So it sat on the car lot forever. Every time we mentioned that we were looking at other vehicles, they guy came down another k or added a k to the trade-in. The dealer was desperate to get rid of it. It was almost comic. So shop around, a solution might be more affordable than you think.
To: RosieCotton
The tree was cleared after a few hours but the powerlines lingered for several days.

Precious?
