Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Do you guys happen to know how long a cat is in heat for? Is it a week? She may be out of heat by the appt. anyway. But if she isn't, I could bring my other cat in instead. She's not in heat yet. Then I can do this cat later on.
Are they only in heat twice a year? Or is it every month or what?

A female cat can start having heat cycles as early as 5 months of age. The female cat’s normal cycle lasts about 14 days with estrus lasting about 5 days if the female is bred and lasting about 7 days if she is not bred. If the cat is not bred, she will come back into heat every 10-30 days until she gets bred.

Eeks!! Every 10-30 days? And if I don't get her fixed next week I have another whole week to go? Hmm...I think I'll call the vet again tomorrow and ask more questions.
My manager said she had a dog they fixed while in heat and he acted like he was in heat from then on, but only milder. What the heck? Is there truth to that? That's something else I'm going to ask the vet lol

If memory serves (doubtful) it lasts about a week and repeats every month or so until she gets pregnant. Is your other cat male? Hope not. Keeping them separated is a herculean task.

I dunno - hormones are wacky things!
I think within that range, she would be likely to go into heat more frequently if there are male cats around (horses are that way) and will go into heat less frequently if there are no males around.
