The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"Less experienced with cats than with dogs, but I don't think they will spay her while she is in heat."

Actually they said they would. There is slightly more risk and she'll bleed more, but it should be fine. I couldn't get her into the vet until TUESDAY though so I have to put up with it until then.

Hmm..."kitty downers"? They didn't mention anything I could give her. I asked if there was anything I could do for her and she said there was nothing.

I'm half tempted to just board her there until Tuesday, but I just couldn't do that to her, the poor thing!

You should do it, Rosie...if it's a better instrument!! You should! Especially at the level you play...you actually play for people!

I'd buy a Copeland right now and play it only for myself if I could afford it!

You know what we should do? We should come up with a list of tunes to practice for Entmoot. Maybe each of us submit five or so, and then work on those. What do you think?

I think that's absolutely what we should do. I know there are other musicians here in the Hole...we should get a run-down of who is going to be at the Moot and who is bringing their instruments. Handle it through the Egroup.

Would you mind arranging this? Are you a moderator for the egroup?

Where is the pic that was posted?
Where is the link that was lost?
The elf-bash has gone unattended…
Hobbit lasses hearts are unmended…
They have passed like chaff on the chiffboard,
They vanish like elf-wind in snowstorm.
The threads have gone down in FR…
Down in the network’s raw ether…
Am I logged in???

Well...here's the thing...it's only marginally "better" than my current instrument. It's more different than better. I LIKE it better, but that's beside the point. However, it DOES have a pickup, which means its a lot easier to amplify. So I'm trying to use that as a rationalization.

I'd buy a Copeland right now and play it only for myself if I could afford it!

Yeah, that's the issue. I can only buy it IF I can sell my other mandolin, and I'm not sure it's fair to make the guy wait when he might be able to sell it elsewhere more quickly. I'm thinking seriously of talking to him about it, though. If he's not in a rush, and if I'm sure I can afford it if and when my other mando sells...well, it might be worth it.

Did I mention we have a gig? Just a free one, but it's something. In return for letting us practice in the school building our church is buying (we've been practicing in a room there on Monday nights), we're playing for the St. Patrick's Day lunch they're doing this year. We did it last year, but last year we actually asked them to let us. This year we were invited, and we've got a stage to play on instead of a crowded corner. Woo-hoo!

I'd be so delighted I wouldn't be able to play. That might be a problem at Entmoot...I'll learn all those tunes and then grin so that I can't play them!

That's cool. Last night I thought I'd done something to my cookie setting at home, then it happened here.

I can still get in, it's just weird.

You are now!

So, use the egroup to communicate with everyone, find out what instrument they can play and to be thinking about what tunes they want to contribute, if they are going to Entmoot!

OK...I'll have to think about how best to do this. Speaking of which, do you have a link to the egroup? I don't have it bookmarked here at work, and it's not searchable, as I remember.

I don't think it makes that much difference...the only thing you can do (besides approving members) is access everyone's emails...so you can send out an email to everyone despite their settings (over-riding their "no mail" or digest setting).
