Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Me too. When Frodo was talking to Gollum in the Marshes, I thought that was a good place to put the backstory in. I don't how they will fit it into the next one.

I'm really confused by this. I just can't believe they wouldn't be nominated for this category. Does that mean Shore won't be nominated again, because he won already?

It sounds like the final decision will be made on Feb. 8, but the fact that TTT wasn't an obvious choice for this award is kind of disturbing.

There was a bit of a flap awhile ago about Shore being snubbed because of a new rule which said that music containing pieces of music from another movie couldn't be nominated. However, there was a pretty big outcry and the Academy decided to hold off implementing that particular rule until next year. So Shore will probably be snubbed next year for the film's grand finale.

I don't know if the decision has been made to put it on the Extended DVD or put it off until ROTK. I'd think PJ would put it on the DVD because he has plenty of other stuff to cram into ROTK as it is.

Yeah how'd you do that? LOL I'm on a Mac at work so I didn't get a message, but the pop-up window to "open image in new window" didn't come up.

I just hit "print scr" (up by F12 on my keyboard) and copied the whole screen. Then opened my PhotoStudio (Paint would work too) and pasted it into it. Then I trimmed off the rest of my screen.

Hold on, I'll go get the other Gollum pic...

I'm not sure how to do it on a mac...I am sure there is a way...but when I hit print scr on my computer, it copies everything I can see on my screen to the clipboard....then I just paste it into a photo program...

I could have sworn I read a quote from Serkis somewhere. He said they told him that it would work better in the next movie instead of TTT. So I assume it's in ROTK. Unless I'm not remembering correctly.

That rule about music is ridiculous. Shouldn't they still be able to win if there is additional music? So I take it the future Star Wars and Harry Potter movie soundtracks won't be nominated either? Didn't John Williams do both of those previously? (My memory is shot right now.) That is insane.

I think the stickler is that it has to be a completely original score to win best original score... Films that use music from somewhere else, or popular music in the soundtrack aren't eligible. And since the Fellowship theme and some of the Hobbity score were re-used from FoTR, the TTT score wasn't completely original. I do think cases like that, where the composer also wrote the original, where the music is part of an overall score from a series like LoTR, ought to have a loophole somewhere that they fit through, but it was technically not within the rules.

Yep, that's from that ROTK calendar that's been leaked. (Was it supposed to be secret??) I think here there was a link to hi-res scans of it. I actually printed them all out on the color copier and made myself a little calendar out of it this afternoon.

That's goofy! If it's being "re-used" by the original composer, what's the difference? I'll never understand these people.
