Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I liked the old Pig... the E3 version was lighter and more manueverable... I prefer sumthin' in 7.62... packs more wallop... goes thru walls too...
I got some buds that work at the precision weapons unit... they were makin a 6.5 x .308 on an AR-10 frame... were getting unbelieveable accuracy at 1000 yds with Leupold 10X scopes... apparently the sent a few to Afghanistan, where they were very unpopular with the Taliban... reports from the field raved...
I prefer .45 for close-in work, but yuh just cain't beat a .12 ga with 00 at 50 yds or less...

I was thinking back to when I was a kid, and how the UVA team was, they never won, but when it seemed like they might, they always managed to throw it away somehow.
The best games were the ones when all the high schools had band competitions during halftime.
Carolina has got to be better than the UVA team of the late 50's and early 60's.

It's so easy to keep going "What if? What if?" after something happens. You did the right thing...you did what any of us would have done. It's a horrible situation to be in and you can only do so much. Sorry you had to witness that.
To: HairOfTheDog
Your instincts were right on Hair. You did the right thing.
To: Corin Stormhands
"It took him a long while to get over that."Oh my gosh, that's awful! And quite selfish on the woman's part IMO. She couldn't do it herself so she forced someone else to do it. That's terrible.
To: Dawntreader
Suicide is always the selfish way out.
To: HairOfTheDog
I don't think you should doubt yourself, everyone here knows that you are a fine and caring lady.
Cool how you figured out how to save the horse last night.
To: Corin Stormhands; Dawntreader
I did what I knew to do.... I know I didn't do anything really wrong... I just wish I had another *take* to see if something could have changed if I did something else.
So! - Everyone feels Pretty Pepped uP from the President's Presidential sPeeech? ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
All pepped up with no place to go!
To: Sam Cree
Yes, that was good. Now I hope the lady fixes her fences so her pony stays where he is supposed to be.
To: Corin Stormhands; HairOfTheDog
Corin - you are absolutely correct. Suicide is the most selfish act anyone can commit.
Hair - you did the right thing. Instinctively, you knew there was nothing you could do for her. And compassionately, you stopped to check if there was. Sadly, hit and run homocides are common here in South Florida.

Hair, I know you've heard this before, but you can't beat yourself up about whether you should've tried to revive her... first: you were in shock, and two: you aren't an EMT... (I was...)
I'm so sorry that you had to deal with this, but that is life... maybe I have a more calloused view cuz of my history, but you just can't dwell on those things... Praise God that you didn't hit them...
To: HairOfTheDog
The President's speech was great. The looks on the Dems faces was even better! LOL!

Praise God that you didn't hit them... I do! - If I had been unsatisfied with the tunes and looking for a different station for two seconds, I would have.

I was on a train once that ran over a person, a suicide, near Dade City. Not much left of the body, which was covered w/ a sheet, time I noticed it, right behind the last car, which I was in, asleep.
We were held up a couple hours with that, but by chance the tracks ahead were washed out, so the train took a different, but shorter route, and still got to Richmond on time, tho it missed some stops it was supposed to make.

I STILL feel like Aragorn.
But I am not starting to like it. After this cup of coffee, I need a shower.

I was there for probably 4 hours while the investigators measured things and talked to people.
I let the kids in the van play with my dogs in the back of my truck, and take them for little walks when they needed them. The kids were pretty shook up too, and dogs are good for that.
