Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, the thing that had me distracted during the speech was that I had spent the previous 40 minutes trying to catch the neighbor's horse who was running down a busy street. That is why I was thinking of tiger food. I thought I was going to see it get hit, and it got me full of adrenaline and it took me awhile to settle down. It was pretty scary for me. I can't see anything hurt like that.
And I witnessed a fatal pedestrian accident last year. I am worried enough when I am in the road with traffic.

I guess he had to put our money where his mouth was in order to prove his "compassionate conservativism". :)
Like you said though, he stole the Dems fire and they cannot campaign on "Republicans don't care for the little guy" anymore.

And I witnessed a fatal pedestrian accident last year. That's terrible! I saw a guy's head go through the windshield of his car and that will stick with me forever! He lived though. He was drunk.

I agree. FReeptastic it was! I loved the part about a family of four making $40K will now pay virtually no taxes (aside from that not being exactly "fair") the Dims continual insistence that the tax cuts are only for the "rich" was completely trashed. And yet, this very morning in our local paper, The (RED)Star Tribune, there were reactions from local congresspeople saying that the tax cuts were for the "rich".
Arrrrrghhh! I just want to beat my head against the wall, they are so stoopid! And they are outright liars and deceivers....

Yup, the liberals' strategy is to repeat the same tired lies over and over until people believe it.
Sadly, there are those that do. Even when they hear the President come right out and explain why it isn't.

It was terrible. This old couple was crossing a dark street at night. I saw them and stopped, but the car coming in the opposite direction didn't. I had a long time (seconds?) where I knew they were gonna get hit and I didn't know what to do. If I honked, they would have looked at me, not the car behind them. I kept expecting them to see the car coming and hurry across. But they never did. The woman bounced forward and landed just outside my door. She was dead. The husband went over the top of the van and landed behind. He survived a day or two and then died.
The woman that hit them was a mom with a carload full of teenagers. Just come from the movies.
The couple killed was a wealthy and 'prominant' couple in their 70's. A loss to the community. But their adult children ticked me off.
They tried to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman who hit them. But I did not want to help them. They thought I would because I had seen them and the other car didn't.
I said... I saw them by the grace of God and no other reason. It was dark, there are no street lights (it was a rural country road) and the road is straight for a half mile or more. I saw them because my own nightmare is hitting a critter on a road like that, so I am hyper vigilant to scan the edges of my lights. Most people don't think like that, even if I wish they would. But no one would have expected people to be walking or crossing the road there.
Our headlights should have been obvious, you usually can't miss car headlights shining on you at night, and this couple did not even look for traffic. They were talking to each other, I could see them, totally involved with each other... and not paying attention at all. It is sad because they are dead. But it was their fault.
That mom that hit them didn't deserve that vision either, and I feared for her. That lawsuit could have ruined her. I was subpoenaed by her attorney to appear, but the case was continued, and probably dropped for good. Good. No good would have come of that.

"And they are outright liars and deceivers...."
You know, not a single Democratic senator would even look at the evidence against Clinton during his impeachment. Not one ever looked, not once, they had already made up their minds to acquit the guy, and didn't want to see any evidence that might make them aware of guilt.
IMO, once they all committed that act of dishonesty, and every one of them did, and, even worse, endorsed a truly evil person, and handed him control of their party, it became no big deal for them to just be routinely dishonest themselves. These days power is their only concern it seems, they sacrificed their souls in pursuit of it long ago.

HA! I am still feeling like Aragorn.... I put it off and inflicted my horrible story on all of you.... need to get going now! :~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Sad story, Hair. I am sorry.
To: HairOfTheDog; RMDupree
An awful story Hair. Several years ago a friend of mine hit a woman on I-395 going into D.C. She was on the side of the road and stepped right into traffic. (suicide).
It took him a long while to get over that.

You know, not a single Democratic senator would even look at the evidence against Clinton during his impeachment. Did any Senator look at the evidence? I will never forget Lott's message to Henry Hyde, "you're not going to dump this on us."
In spite of the way it happened. I'm glad Lott's gone.
To: HairOfTheDog
What a sad story. I commend you for doing the right thing and not blaming the innocent.
Those instances are called "accidents" for a reason, however tragic they may be.

You are absolutely right. The good of the nation, and what is best for our national interests, has no meaning for them any more, doesn't factor in to their decisions any more. Only naked partisan power animates them now... It is disgusting...
To: Corin Stormhands
That was pretty discouraging when he was elected majority leader again. Kind of like rooting for a football team that always loses through stupidity.
To: Corin Stormhands
It took him a long while to get over that. I bet it did! - The visions replayed in my head for some time, and I didn't hit them. The way the woman bounced and rolled. I could see it. I could hear it. I felt guilt, because I hadn't known how to stop it from happening when I knew it was going to. And I ran up to the woman laying by my truck, felt for a pulse, looked at the unnatural position she was in, and didn't try to revive her. My untrained opinion was that she could not have been saved, but was I right? If it was my mom, I would have wanted someone to try. I doubted myself later.

Lunchtime!

Yeah, they are so transparent. They get votes because they appeal to people's greed and envy. In fact, their whole party seems to be driven by greed, envy and lust for power.
