I don't (read: never) read or watch MTV either, but I respect kurt loder as a reviewer, oddly enough. Every single work of art criticism he's written, that i've read, has been intelligent, incisive, and mostly correct: when something is really good, he can tell you why. his liner notes to the led zeppellin box set are the most intelligent commentary on the band i've ever seen. I think MTV hired him back before they started going pop and he's just stayed on.

I got down to your post and said, "Yeah!" I had no idea Loder was this smart. (My bad.)

I've known he had a good self-deprecating sense of humor since I saw him play himself in movies like Fear of a Black Hat and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.
