No, cultured Southerners would not have referred to raising and nurturing children as "breeding," an expression reserved for livestock. Please see my post #39.

I beg to differ. It is a term used discretely quite often in referring to poorly mannered people such as those who speak loudly and provocatively in a crowded store.
