Yes, I can see where that could be effective. However, I would add this word of caution...ineffective, or clumsy smacking of the firing pin can cause the round to breech, or worse still, explode in the chamber, causing extensive damage and imminent physical harm!

Yes. One must indeed ensure that one is so completely over-the-top that there is little room to be left in the line of fire should it detonate.
