It's a geek's dream -- and the best DVD of the year. Today's four-disc extended edition of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (New Line, $39.99) has everything fans could want, and probably things they never even conceived of having.

Lest anyone feel overly fanatical for wanting to consume this much information about one movie, consider this: Jackson ... became so enraptured with the full-size set of Bilbo's home, Bag End, that he bought it from the studio. It's in storage awaiting the day when he can install it in a hillside near his home, he says in his commentary.

I listened to that in the director's commentary last night and thought it was cute... he belongs in a Hobbit Hole, and I am glad it was saved.

When he was talking about it, he said "the hobbit hole was a very comforting place to be, everything is soft and round, kindof like being in the womb..."

Hey everyone! We have created an additional place
for us to hang out for "casual hobbit hole talk",
called the FR_Hobbit Hole at Yahoo!

It is a private place, for only Tolkien fans from Free Republic. This is just an additional place we have... We use the chat room sometimes for our idle chit-chat and to share live events like movie chat-views, and there are some cool files there that you can download, like e-versions of all the Tolkien books. If you do not already belong, contact any one of these good folk via freepmail:

2Jedismom
HairOfTheDog
Overtaxed
JenB
Ecurbh
Penny1

And we will send you the map of how to get there!

We are doing a chat-view of the Extended Edition FOTR tonight at 5:00 P - 7:00 C - 8:00 E time.... try to get in right away to join us!

I'm disappointed.

Disappointed that I'm too busy with my course to even think about having time to watch it until Thanksgiving break.

Disappointed that I won't get to see the extended version on a big screen any time soon.

Disappointed that I'll have to wait another year for the extended version of The Two Towers -- I'm waiting even though I obviously haven't even seen the theatrical version yet.

I suppose those are the good kinds of being disappointed.

What a tragic and heartbreaking predicament you paint! Is there no end to this suffering?

There is an end, my friend...but it's a long journey, to a place we really don't want to go. It's something we've got to do. We'll get there if it kills us...I'll carry you if I have to!
