You don't get it....I, my father, and Grandfather before me served this country, even though our ancestor lost everything to Sherman's army. As always, Southern men will answer the call when it comes. I personally served the ideals that this nation is supposed to stand for. Unfortunately, I lost much of the faith that I had, watching our corrupt Washington politicians steal, rob, and cheat. I still would prefer to see this country go back to constitutional government, just as it was in 1860.....unfortunately, time grows short. (and corruption has deep roots.) When I speak of "occupied" I refer to the symbol of federalism at it's worst. Not the idea of a United States.
I encourage my children to serve in the military as well. But I also teach them of a time when the states were supreme, and the Government was the servant of the states. Not what exists now. I am loyal to the United States of old, and the one I hope will come again, and to the purer ideals of the present.
