I have no idea about that wound, but the Cleburne Memorial is his proposal to draft blacks into the army. Gen Johnson shot it down, despite the fact most of Cleburne's senior staff supported the measure.

Cleburn's proposal was disapproved of by Johnston, most of his senior commanders, and Jefferson Davis himself. Cleburn was ordered to destroy any copies of his proposal and not mention it again.
