I was going to say this was "believed" back in the late 1940's. In fact as I recall the prune juice idea was simply accepted. I'm trying to remember if Dr. Pepper was even advertised as prune juice? Ah memory what a frail thing!

I can't say for sure one way or the other. All I can testify to was that Dr. Pepper was the only soda my brother and I were allowed to drink on a regular basis - because it was "good" for us.
