Really? Then why did DW's attorney say that Westerfield led a good life except for a three-day weekend of terror if he thought his client was innocent?

I take the "three day weekend of terror" as an ironic reference to the torment Westerfield allegedly suffered.

(I mean ironic in the sense that obviously Feldman would not want to state that Westerfield perpetrated terror -- he was not accused of anything amiss that weekend other than the murder. So the meaning has to be the terror he allegedly suffered.)
