In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

probity\'prO-b&-tE \, n:
1.adherence to the highest principles and ideals
2.Complete and confirmed integrity
“He was a gentlemanly Georgian, a person of early American probity” (Mary McGrory).

Etymology:Middle English probite, from Old French, from Latin probitas, from probus, upright, good. See per1 in Indo-European Roots.

Usage:Usage: Probity denotes unimpeachable honesty and virtue, shown especially by the performance of those obligations, called imperfect, which the laws of the state do not reach, and can not enforce. Integrity denotes a whole-hearted honesty, and especially that which excludes all injustice that might favor one's self. It has a peculiar reference to uprightness in mutual dealings, transfer of property, and the execution of trusts for others.

Good Morning, class. Today ,you may use probity or it's opposite, improbity.

Let's go!!!!

Yee Haa!!! I'm ready!!! Wait until you see the probity in THIS article!

Here is an example of the probity of my dear husband, TigersEye, at post 73:

The indoctrination of children in government schools is no myth and no joke. It is quite insidious and the distortions of logic and the twisting of meanings outside of rational contexts does great violence to the ethical, moral and spiritual development of young minds.

Dear .30Carbine, I wish public education officials exhibited the probity of FReepers and your husband, Tiger's Eye. As President Lincoln said:
"The philosophy of the classroom today will be the philosophy of government tomorrow."
Don't think for a moment the rats are not aware of this. Thank you for linking my article, Carbine.

You're very welcome, Libertina; it was my pleasure!

I also want to recommend an excellent listen over at Focus on the Family to Y'ALL. They are doing a 5-day broadcast series of 9-11 remembrances and recordings. Today was Day Two. After the intro, you will hear two World Trade Center workers speak about their ordeal that day, one of whom was the last American pulled from beneath the rubble - 27 hours after the tower crashed down on top of her! It will move you to tears. (On Monday and Tuesday of next week you can hear fire and police workers describing their experiences that day.)

I also recommend listening to Bill Bennett's comments on how to beat a moral relativist at their own game! That's on Focus' Archive page, click on the September 4th (part two) show.

Folks, we got all sortsa probity goin' on here!
