Las Vegas - Free Dominion's Excellent Adventure
Conniew and I have recently returned from the Free Republic Convention in Las Vegas. We were warmly received and we had the honor of meeting Jim Robinson, the man who created the Free Republic model we used to design Free Dominion.
Free Dominion was recognized twice during the convention. First at the beginning when diotima said from the microphone, This convention is misnamed, it should be the International Convention since Free Dominion is present. This resulted in a round of applause. The second time was during a big screen presentation of all the chapters of Free Republic. They included Free Dominion, some pics from our banquet in April, and some of our bumper stickers. When those pics came on the screen we received another round of applause.
We met many of Free Republics shining stars and learned a lot in the seminars. Author Laura Ingraham gave the keynote speech and she was riveting and entertaining.
All in all, it was an excellent adventure. And now the pics.
Entropy Squared pins Jim Robinson with a Free Dominion pin.
Entropy Squared with Jim Robinson. Jim Robinson, for all his magnificent accomplishments, is a very low-key guy. Hes just a regular dude. He endured a photo op like this with just about everyone in the room.
Free Republic screen name diotima. She emceed the event and she is Free Republics equivalent of Free Dominions Wild Rose.
Free Republic screen name Interesting Times, one of Free Republics best writers and it turns out a piano player as well. He entertained us with great music.
The only time low-key Jim Robinson spoke at a microphone was to accept an award on behalf of his son, John Robinson.
Jim Robinson stoically endures another photo op with Entropy Squared and conniew.
Conniew meets the Blues Brothers in downtown Las Vegas on Freemont Street.
Straight-laced conniew, totally corrupted by Las Vegas, rests (diplomatically speaking) at the bar in the Treasure Island casino.

conniew was also a total rookie at playing the poker machines, yet her wins almost made up for my losses. ('almost' being the operative word.)
To: Entropy Squared
Well that was sheer luck. Those machines don't care if you are a cute blond or a grey haired gent, they want your money. Kind of like the government. Neither Las Vegas nor Reno were built on gamblers winnings.

It was amazing, B4Ranch. I've played a lot of poker. I would slowly lose and conniew would be hitting all the big hands. But the drinks were free. Actually, I think I came out ahead on that front. :-)
To: Entropy Squared
That's your only chance to get 'em, with the booze and pretty gals wandering by. LOL

I had a gorgeous babe passed out on the bar beside me. But she's married. :-(
To: conniew
Connie, I really don't think he will fit in the toaster! Unless ... did you have one built to specification for him?
To: Taxman
I'll see that bet and raise you...3?
To: dixie sass
I was dreaming poker hands for days after I got back home. None of them were as good as the hands conniew drew in Las Vegas though.
To: B4Ranch
Yo, B4! How are you?
Was all set to come out for the races this year, but my son's wife committed them to an event several months ago and they cannot go -- so it will be next year.
But I'll follow them as closely as I can. Hope they have a successful event this year, after the bummer last year.
Take care, and hug Mrs. B4 for me.

I love it! This is the evidence I needed to prove straight-laced conniew was corrupted by Las Vegas. This pic will be reposted at Free Dominion. < grin icon >
