The Rain Tax Cometh?

It's been a long time since we've seen any real rain in Western North Carolina. However, the next time it does rain you might want to think about the storm water that the rain produces.

Why? Because according to the Federal government storm water runoff is a problem, and it needs to be addressed.

Storm water runoff is the water that flows off impervious surface areas such as roofs, driveways, parking lots, streets, and other hard surfaces during rainstorms. Rather than being absorbed into the ground, it pours into ditches, culverts, catch basins, and storm sewers.

According to the government, storm water can carry harmful pollutants, cause flooding, erode topsoil and stream banks, and destroys marine life habitat.

So, in the near future, the rain you hear falling on your roof might be costing you money - tax money that is.

Isn't this a crock of SH!!?

They were trying to push this off on us in Raleigh recently and it got voted down, thank God. I'm sure it will come up again at some point though.

Oh, we had this when we lived in Greensboro.

And before you asked, NO, you don't get a credit when it doesn't rain!

We probably would'nt know about it anyway. You know NC is one of the states try to pass "CLOSED DOOR LEGISLATING." That way, when we found out, it would be too late.

Of course they don't, it's the government. I wonder how creative they will get on future taxing. Sex tax, doggie doo tax, tax when you answer mother nature's call........what else will they come up with?

I mean God is responsible for the rain, I'm suprised they don't try and figure out how to tax him. Actually they do I guess since even churches won't be exempt from this one.

I'm seriously praying that the make-up of the Legislature will change drastically this Nov. It's our only hope.

Well, I have read complaints about how the use of blacktop that absorbs sunlight contributes to global warning, so maybe the sunshine tax is not so implausible as you think.

I believe so, I also remember something wrote a couple of centuries ago about something similar with the Lords and Barons.

Yep, that's him. The "Petition of the Candlemakers" is what I was thinking of -- it is a real hoot to read!
