You're probably right about the shortness of the time to have the testing done on the defense's side; however, in this case the defendant can't blame anyone else for that because he was the one that insisted on a speedy trial. That would also be true.

This is speculation, but lets say that DW had some knowlege as to the 'goings on' & some of the people the VD's 'associated' with. Perhaps someone w/ connections.
Maybe he was fearing for his life, that if it was not a speedy trial, he would be dead in a jailhouse somewhere.
