There are conscious and sub-conscious reasons for everything. The Jury may have actually asked for the tape for that particular little quote, but subconsciously, surely, they wanted to hear the big buddha himself.

Don't know what info they wanted....but am convinced they wanted to hedar his words for voice inflection, pauses, see if they were lots of "uhs" "ums", "coughing", hesitating, etc. None of which comes thru on the tape. The way to "read" an audio tape is with the ears, not eyes as would be the case in the transcript only.
