	My dog goes off like an explosion when the postman so much as walks down the opposite side of the street.
I purchased a red Chow for that very purpose.  (To protect, not chase the postman.) Did you know that Chows are at the bottom of the intelligence list?????  She was absolutely no good at the protection scene.  She wouldn't even bark... UNTIL ... we got our killer Daschund.  We had a pit bull puppy (about 10 months old) staying with us for awhile.   The electricity meter reader came to the gate and I asked him to wait while I put the dog up.  He looked relieved.  I walked over to the Daschund and picked her up and told him OK.  He just stood there and looked at me like I was crazy. "What about him," he asked, pointing to the Pit?  I just shrugged and said he had nothing to worry about.  Not all dogs react as expected.

A couple of years ago my son went to a neighbor's house who's Bull Mastiff just had puppies. He walked into the garage and was bitten by their dog. The dog bit through his jeans on the inside of his upper thigh, went right through the material. He came home and showed me, it was pretty bad.. I said "That huge dog bit you??"

He said "No it was their Daschund"
