I believe this Detective is correct. It is the only thing that would make any sense.

I have spent some time today and yesterday on a Ex-Mormon 'Recovery' board. This group knows more that any non-Mormon would about the church and possible corruption at the higher levels. There are many of them that think that the Smart's sold their daughter.

Also, of interest, some of them mention that the LDS church is connected to Global Crossing, the recent scandal that rivals Enron. The claim is that the LDS owns Global.

I was curious as to where Ed Smart gets the funding for his mortgage loans. First National Mortgage, per David Smart, in an article, is Ed Smart's company. I wonder if the LDS church is funding the loans? Ed Smart is not listed as a mortgage Broker in Utah, in the licensed Brokers/Agents. That is odd.

Sometimes people who have had a bad personal experience with an idea or group are so supersensitive that they overreact and are primed to believe the most amazing atrocities about the thing which has caused them harm.

I will never believe that the family sold Elizabeth and believe that that kind of theorizing is irresponsible and counter-productive.

Interesting thoughts. As one who has good insight into LDS funds and such your guess about the LDS Church funding his mortgages would not be correct or the ownership of Global Crossing.

My speculation is that they would not sell such a talented daughter but that someone (relative, neighbor or acquaintance) wanted to kidnap for ransom and it somehow went bad.

Do you think it's possible they sold her? Why would they sell her and why would they deliberately mislead the authorities, I'm sure they realize they would face prosecution?

Interesting. Anyone have time to check this out?, or, does anyone known on this board know anything about this?

This much is pretty obvious, the only question being to who? And who in the family is involved?

"I was curious as to where Ed Smart gets the funding for his mortgage loans. First National Mortgage, per David Smart, in an article, is Ed Smart's company. You point out Ed as the most likely suspect, and I think you are right. Of course, he would need to get enough money to make it worthwhile. I doubt the polygamists would have that kind of cash, nor could they keep her hidden. The African/Middle East white slave trade on the other hand would do. Perhaps a South/Central American drug lord, but that might be too risky as well. Obviously, to have contacts with such people means Ed is not the sterling gentlemen being portrayed in the media.

Details, details. Ed is a real estate broker, not a mortgage broker. Do you suppose that might have something to do with him not being listed with licensed mortgage brokers?

Your other two "theories" are just as lame. You might want to get some facts.

Mr. Smart is both a real estate agent/broker, and he also owns a Mortgage Company. He is listed with both. If you want the details, you can FReepmail me.
