I remember reading the book, but I don't remember the fire dept having a part in it. I take it the swim is not very long. I'm glad the animals are well cared for first and formost, however the fact that they supply funds for the fire dept is great too.

I went to buy a copy of the book yesterday - wound up ordering the 3 book series. I don't remember the story and so would like to rad it again myself.

The section of the channel they sim them across is about 200 yards. But they do it at slack tide, so the water is not deep at all.

That herd would have been lost many years ago if it were not for the volunteers who take care of them, which is a great thing - and the added bonus is the fire company gets helped out.

You don't even have to be a "horse" person to enjoy it - I highly recommend doing it at least once!!!
