Judge William D. Mudd admonishes the media about attempts to photograph Neal Westerfield, son of defendant David Westerfield, as the son left the courtroom during a break in his testimony Wednesday afternoon, July 24, 2002, in San Diego. The judge had ordered the media not to film the teen. David Westerfield is accused of the kidnapping and murder of 7-year old Danielle van Dam from her home in February. (AP Photo/Pool, Dan Trevan) |

I know the Smart family was under a magnifying glass - we would hear that on the newscasts. Ricci was not arrested for her kidnapping, right? I can't follow everything as closely as I want to.
I also would be blaming myself to some degree for the vulnerablilty of my household if my daughter were to disappear from her bedroom. I would be inconsolable, but that's just me.
Also - just wonder who might be trying to intimate jurors besides members of the media.

EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK OUT POSTS 90, 97 and 98
Interesting coincidence. I wish the VDs finances would be looked into. I have been skeptical about how they ived the lifestyle they did on a his salary. Anyway we can find out if they had 100G life insurance policy on Danielle? That's a red flag if true.

I've been wondering the same thing. Damon's already been kicked out of the courtroom once for trying to intimidate DW...what's to say he's not trying to intimidate the witnesses now?
I'm sorry, but the VD's grief seemed forced and guided. It was a "spot fest" for them, and I haven't believed a word thats come out of their mouths since day 1.
"No regrets"

They said the same thing about the beemer too.

I saw Larry King, too. Erin Runnion is an amazing person. I agree with all that you said.
I have a video of my 22 year old daughter's 6th birthday. It was a heartbreaking interview.

Yes, what a contrast from when the VDs were on Larry wouldn't ya say? I remember when Danielle was still missing, they were on Larry cool as cucumbers. Of all things Lar' asked if they had any regrets about that night and the answer was NO. BVD said she wouldn't change a thing about that night. Gosh, can't beleive she didn't say "wish I had locked the door, stayed home, checked on the kids etc.." They are just pieces of crap in my opinion.

I'm sorry but I thought that was funny. You are correct.
A couple of months ago a woman on Jameson's forum who goes by momof6 took a couple of her kids and a digital camera to an RV place. She had a 7 year old the approximate size of Danielle. Momof6 asked to see a 1997 Southwind or the equivalent. She then photographed her kids in and around the =1997SW. She said that the storage compartments on that model were much too small for a child. Interesting pics.
If I can get the link, I'll post it.

Hey, get a load of this, which was given to me by an anonymous source to post here.
"Let me tell you a story. I was so impressed by VRWC_munchkins logic that I tried to put it to use in my home life.
My wife told me she went grocery shopping. I asked her what she bought. She said Eggs, Milk, Butter, and Cheese. I immediately realized how fishy her story sounded. I computed the odds. I know she buys milk once every other trip, eggs once every 3 trips, butter once every 5 trips, and cheese once in 10 trips. So the probability that she bought Eggs, Milk, Butter, and Cheese all at the same time is (1/2)(1/3)(1/5)(1/10)=0.0033, or a 0.33% chance! Therefore, there is a 99.67% chance that she was lying!
When confronted with this indisputable fact she actually had the audacity to get mad at ME and call ME stupid! I mean, I have a Ph.D. in this kind of stuff, it is how I make my living!"

Um, it's not spin. Blackbourne did much the same thing.
See SND, Evidence, Forensic experts.
I'd post the link but some people might get offended.

That is so sad sw. I saw a bit of her funeral, and what struck me the most was when mom said (and I paraphrase here), that it was so ironic that her (Samantha's) greatness had come as a result of her death.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a child. Parents should go first. Even when my own mother passed away at age 61, her mother, who was still alive, said that. She died a little more than a year later, never really recovering from my own mother's death.

Just to give you all some local input. LOcal nbc 7/39 did a poll (which was then mimicked on a local radio sation) as to whether people believed the efense had raised reasonable doubt. In both polls, it ran about 65 (no)/35 (yes) percent. SHould be an interesting verdict.
I am wondering though. If say, this jury hangs...there will be a mistrial and and then a new trial. Suppose the second one is hung...how many times can the state retry?
