EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from occasionally ruining a piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded; must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair; must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was .....Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however, it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the aroma of some of their favorite foods. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time...

Gizmo belongs to Dutchess. Dutchess is a neat FRiend and I am trying to get her to visit the Guild more often. She also just learned how to scan and post photos so I wanted to give her an opportunity to practice her new found skill. But, alas, she is working and not able to do so at this time. But maybe tonight when she gets home she will post photos of Gizmo's siblings-a one eyed cat and a sheltie.

Hi! Here's a pretty "big one" of Codee, our 15 year old shelter. We got her a month after our beloved "Dutchess" died (thus my screen name). I was heart broken over losing Dutch and just couldn't warm up to Codee nor she to me.

One day about 6 months after we got her I was cleaning out files and found sympathy cards family and friends had sent plus letters I wrote to Dutchess the first week or two after she died. As I read them, I started crying. The next thing I know Codee came in the room, layed on my feet and just looked up at me with those soulful eyes. That was definately the turning point.... So here she is (I hope)

"HALLE Berry tried to kill her Shih Tzus? Gosh, I hope she doesn't have any Shih Tzus with her now. No marital problems are worth killing a Shih Tzu, IMHO. What a nut case!"

That makes Gizmo pretty sad too!

;-) I feel like such a nitwit - my digital camera is still in the box. Yikes - how pitiful is that?

Keep 'em coming.

Maybe Rangel will go the way of several Saudi princes of late - and no, I'm not ashamed of saying that.

These are all pictures that I'm scanning into "Domania" the site Bille recommended. I'm really happy with it so far and Mr. D. finally taught me how easy scanning and editing is. We've had a digital for 2 years and to Mr. D's dismay, I would never use it. (Nor would I use the scanner).

This is pretty fun. But gosh, I'm getting absolutely NOTHING DONE.

Time to find some more cool pictures of "Fred" the one eyed mutant cat! He completes our "brood".

"WHY is what doctors do called "practice"

If you'd ever had to do it, you'd know.

For instance, I met with an expert today who is working on prion disease - the substance that causes Mad Cow. Her work is ground-breaking. It has to do with changing genetic makeup w/o altering DNA- the traditional way we've always thought the stuff got changed. Believe me, medicine is an art which is "practiced." We do the best we can, whether it be dog, cat, horse, cow, etc., or man.

Maybe Rangle will go the way ...

Ha! I enjoyed that comment.

Hello, all ... I do not normally "talk" here, enjoying your company in silence ... but this topic drew me in!

I've 2 St. Bernards ... the oldest will turn 2 September 30th ... the youngest just 8 months ... total weight for both ... 336 pounds.

The older was handed an old soul ... and showed himself sraight away to be a serious fellow ... not given to tricks or pranks ... while the younger has proven to be hip deep in *sparkles* ... wakin' each morn expecting life to be as fun as he thinks he is! LOL!

Even as I type this, my old soul friend is allowing sparky to figuratively drag him around the backyard by the collar ... when he tires of the game ... he'll merely apply his massive arm to the head of sparkles ... and tell him enough is enough.

We've a storm approaching, and the air is heavy. Soon ... little Mr. Happy-pants will want in ... so he can hide from the elements ... while my wise old soul will begin pacing the property line ... tuning in to a song we can not hear ... but one he knows by heart ... ancient and lasting ... he does this every time it storms.

So pretty.

Well ... forgive me. I never speak up ... and then I use up all this space.

Have a lovely evening, you all ... and enjoy your critters!!!

Evening there. Please speak more often, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about your saints and their past lives. Fascinating.

This will give me lots to think about - but from a lifetime of pet ownership, or vice versa, I know what you're talking about regarding different spirits and seriousness or lack thereof in both dogs and cats. Thanks for posting. JL

What a great story about your "kids". Animals really bring people together AND develop their own set of rules with the others in the house.

Codee, a pure bred arthritic then 11 year old was in pain, stopped exercise etc. We had Fred the "one eyed mutant" cat.. but there was little interaction. Gizmo showed up and disrupted the whole house. Even for us and we questioned our decision to keep him. BUT, he kept getting in Codee's face and pissing her off (but got her off her butt), Fred finally had something to repond to and now

it's amazing...every Saturday and Sunday morning are family "bedfests" where the Mr. D. is "kicked" out of bed but sits in a chair doing crosswords...I sleep and read...and all three just hang out...it's always a triangle around me...but they never have a defined space. Just "the triangle".

Two years ago, Codee spent two weeks in ICU with a bleeding ulcer (be careful with arthritis medicine (Rymadal...worked great for a few years but serious side affects) The prognosis wasn't great and I really believe Fred and Giz were the reason she survived. They gave her "sh_t" constantly!

Can you tell I LOVE my kids LOL!
