Haven't read the whole article yet (it's long! whew!) but my Dal-Brador is always waiting at the front gate when I drive up, and I know she doesn't spend the whole day there!
Believe it or not, I have a cat who does the exact same thing. It's uncanny. Cats aren't supposed to care about anything, but Sherman knows when someone is on their way home and she jumps to the windowsill to wait. It almost never fails.
But my dog seems to react only to vehicle sounds so she only gets excited when someone is about to enter the driveway.
