Clearing the Bases is already the best baseball book of the year. And Allen Barra is one of the game's most faithfully astute analysts. (If anything, his presence - like David Horowitz's - enhances Salon.com, rather than Salon.com cheapening theirs.) And he has offered, as usual, a very provocative position - and he just so happens to be right about the preponderance of it.
