Dairy allergies for one. Plus God only knows what else is in dairy products that small children cannot process well.

You are misinformed. There are ample studies that document the value of BF beyond 6 months.

Go here, http://www4.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi, and you will find doezens (maybe hundreds) of references linking extended BF to allergy prevention, nutrition, protection from disease, reduced risk of obesity later in life, and enhanced cognitive development.

The benefits aren't only for the baby, either. Studies have shown a correlation in the reduction of breast cancer rates relative to the length of time that women breastfeed. Lactation and breast cancer risk
