I have two gun safety rules:

1: The gun IS loaded, even if you think it isn't.

2: Never point a gun (see rule 1) at ANYONE unless your intent is to kill them.

Pretty simple, although my DI had other rules. ;^)

3. Never place your finger inside the trigger guard until you are ready to fire the weapon.

That one is pretty commonly violated, and is the cause of many negligent discharges.
