Wow, how far away is the town? There are some good pics here, and that is as close as I want to be to an active volcano. Thanks for the post.

Wow, how far away is the town?

I would guess that the picture was taken from Ambato, which is the fourth-largest city in Ecuador, 25 km (15 miles) away from Tungurahua. There are some villages closer to it according to the Web site below, and apparently the government has basically had to say "live and let die" to anyone that still wants to live there. The volcano has been threatening for a long time, but hasn't exploded with a deadly eruption yet.
