so it is because they were self-insured or uninsured, that the hospital was taking this attitude towards the baby? I doubt it. The hospitals probably honestly believed that the situation was hopeless.
It just galls me to see peole rolling the dice and not purchasing health insurance when they can afford luxuries like ski vacations and big screen TV's.

i had not focused on the insurance aspect of it, only on the lack of support for the parents decision to give their baby every possible chance to survive. i would insist on it myself, were i the parent. And considering that my friend's daughter survived at that weight 14 years ago, and with the advances of technology since that time, it doesn't seem too much to ask for every chance to be given. my friend had health insurance but i recall her saying that the hospital bills were like $75K for that ordeal.
