Email: The Future of Free Republic
Email | 06/25/02 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 06/25/2002 3:42:21 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

The following email is being circulated to our members by various disgruntled former FReepers:

Subject: The Future of Our Free Republic

Dear Fellow Free Republic Member,

Many of us at Free Republic are distressed by the extraordinary level of censorship that has been so obviously going on. It is very obvious that individual posts, entire threads, and the entire work of members who have been highly regarded are disappearing into a Memory Hole.

Scores of us have organized an e-mail network that is independent of the communication controls presently, and sadly, being used at our Free Republic. We have carefully documented the unmistakeable evidence that most of the posts, threads, and posters that are vaporized completely are overwhelmingly targeted for their political stance on the Right. These are not Leftwingers. These are not even Middle-of-the-Roaders. These are not disruptors. These are not foul-mouthed delinquents. These are fellow patriots on the Right who disagree with the controllers of FR on specific issues that are now hotly debated by the Right. We have documented that FR will parade before you, as if to hide all of the great posters whose work has been destroyed, a straw-man delinquent that has been banned. This is deceptive.

Treating these fellow patriots on the Right so shabbily is not right. As shabbily as those banned into the Memory Hole are being treated, the most shabbily treated of all are all of the good folks on Free Republic themselves. We came here for honest debate. Free Republic advertised itself as a Forum for honest debate. Without that honest debate...everything at Free Republic becomes shabby.

We can do much better. As a measure of how intense the simmering feelings have gotten among members on this unjustifiable use of deleting, censoring, and banning please link to the following thread. You will notice that one simple and sincere plea from one of our finest members has spontaneously touched off a prairie fire of approximately 500 posts in a mere 18 hours. If it isn't Memory Holed this thread may shoot into the thousands.

If you would like to receive anonymous updates of information concerning the hundreds of Freepers who have networked via e-mail to restore the wonderful honest debate to Free Republic, just drop an e-mail of just one or two words if you like for extreme brevity to:

StopCensoringUs@hotmail.com

And, here's that link back to the snowballing thread at FR:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/704701/posts

Thank you so much for giving your thought to this vital matter for our Internet home.

Sincerely, StopCensoringUs@hotmail.com

"If somebody hadn't posted since before the election, today they might get themselves in trouble if they echoed the sentiments that you posted about Dubya being a cokehead felon who shouldn't be allowed near the post of dog-catcher much less President. I assume that you'd ban yourself today if you caught yourself saying such a thing.

I agree with Jim. Bush would have made an incompetent dog catcher."

Well, the thing you anti-freepers will never admit is that my infamous rant about cokeheads was not even directed at Bush. It was directed at the writer of the editorial in question who was suggesting that the entire issue of coke was no different than liquor during prohibition, and that it would make no difference even if he was a coke user that should not make him ineligble to be elected president.

Now I think she was being sarcastic here, but, just the same, I think the day the Wall Street Journal urges that we knowingly elect cokeheads to the presidency while on the other hand, the government wages war on drugs and drug users is being just a bit hypocritical and is going a step too far, and so told her so. She was using absurdity to make a point and I was being equally absurd in my counterpoint. Ironic, eh?

Had I know that this particular rant was destined to be forever enshrined in the anti-Freeper Hall of Fame, I would've combed my hair and sat up straight in my chair before hitting the post button.

Jim out.

Parrots are now anti-Freepers too, are they Jimbo?

You really are losing it.

You were probably on something yourself when you made your rant about Bush.

If you have any guts (which I doubt) leave it up here so everyone can see it.

To: Freedom Wins

So, it doesn't matter if he [Bush] snorted coke as a youth? It was a long time ago, a youthful in-discretion? Kinda like people who frequented sneakeasies during prohibition? Kind of a cute story, eh? Well, how about all the people whose lives have been destroyed by being arrested for the felony of drug possession? What about the millions of people who are rotting away in your filthy drug infested prisons at this very moment?

Well, by God, if you people insist on electing another cokehead as President, you damned well better throw open all the prison cell doors and free every man, woman, and child you're holding on drug charges. And if you're gonna elect another drug felon as President, you'd better rescind each and every one of your unconstitutional drug laws now on the books, including all of your unconstitutional search and seizure laws, and your asset forfeiture laws, and your laws that enable your unconstitutional snooping into our bank accounts and cash transactions. Well, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. You people are sick! Conservatives my ass. You people are nothing but a bunch of non-thinking hypocrits! You're a shame and a disgrace to the Republic!

And, I, for one, am tired of taking orders from cokeheads and felons! Elect another one and I'll tell you what. I'll be ready for war! It'll be time to take up arms and run the filthy lying bastards out!

This particular one is, though he is not one of the originals. He's a denizen of the LibertyForum. And, you light from forum to forum like some little fairy, sprinkling your sparklings bits of wit. How charming. Cheerio, my light footed little friend, see ya next time.

I rather love the quote. Always have. And I'm no antifreeper. I was hoping that the quote was sincere even if you may have changed your mind since.

It is extreme, but then again, so is "Give me Liberty or Give me Death..."

Anti-freepers used to use that quote in order to "prove" that you were a "Bircher."

BS from a bunch of obsessive-compuslive liars. It is entirely hypocritical for those who "didn't inhale" or had "youthfull indescresions" to put people in prison for the same thing. You were right no matter how ruffled your hair was or how ironic the statement was intended to be and I admire you for making it.

I have saved your classic comment about Welfare Freepers, and it will be used in the next Free Republic Freepathon with Freep Loader.

Then, these Whacko Welfare Freepers are under the delusion that we have to listen to their hate America/President Bush rants.

Wrong! I had a bunch of uncles and cousins who took out a lot of people in WWII who felt that everyone had to listen to their rants and live the way they wanted the common people to live.

And how exactly am I not respecting Jims property rights? Please be specific.
Sure. It is what started me in on this thread.

It doesn't just belong to Jim anymore, it belongs to everyone who donates their hard-earned money to keep it afloat.

That's an opinion. I think that Jim should give alot more consideration to those who keep this place afloat. Now how am I specifically disrespecting Jim's property rights? Can you answer?

We obviously have a difference of opinion.

I think claiming that someone doesn't own any longer what they own is disrespecting their property rights (specifically, their rights relating to that particular thing, in this case Free Republic).

You don't.

Imagine donating a gift at a housewarming then showing up later to tell the owner that his house isn't really his anymore.

You will find on this forum unabashed racists,

So when I see an FR poster say "nuke the ragheads" I should pretend that he doesn't represent FR? All sites have their assortments of nuts, and you know that as well as anyone.

anti-Semites,

Maybe a couple....although some people's definition of an "anti-semite" may differ from others. Perhaps you have a different dip-test for these types of things.

Marxist propagandists,

Example? Haven't seen marxism proclaimed anywhere on the site...if anything I'd lay dollar to donuts that I can find more marx-ish programs in GW's budget then you can find on LibertyForum.

angry (and I mean very angry) people who bash everyone and everything,

Seen plenty of that here as well, Jim.

whackos, sickos, you name it.

Same thing here, although I am not sure what exactly you mean by "sickos."

What I don't understand, Jim, is why you used this particular email to smear a competiting newsforum. At the time of this posting, Vallinghdam wasn't a participant at LF. I have seen him on other boards, but not LF. What is the deal with that? It is unlike you to smear for the purpose of smearing.

Smear? Look, Francis, I posted a link to the site and let everyone know that if they are into anti-Semitism, tin-foil hat conspiracy, etc, then that is the place to go. I don't want it here. By the way, I thought you already opussed. What are you doing back here?

So if I posted a link at say, Yahoo, and said hey if you are into right-wing whackjobs, racists and GOP apologists who often trip over themselves to show who love the president more, that wouldn't be a smear? Of course it would. I know there is some of that here, however, I know that there is also more to the site then that.

By the way, I thought you already opussed. What are you doing back here?

I also swore off the Disney store....but if Mike Eisener decided to badmouth a friend of mine, I would be happy to stop by and let him know how I feel.

If you want to know how truly despicable LibertyForum is, they currently have a thread going where they claim Flight 77 never hit the Pentagon, and that Barbara Olson's phone call to Ted was the "Mother Of All Lies." Barf.
