Has anybody seen "Monster's Ball"? Is Angela right or wrong? I really like her as an actress.

Saw Monsters Ball. It's a very good film. Subtle, the message is understated, something we don't see much of in today's movies.

Berry's character isn't a prostitute, she works as a waitress. And, I didn't think it demeaning. The character got drunk and pounced on Billy Bob, but she'd had a really bad day. [which almost explains why Billy Bob…]

I haven't seen it. But I would like to point out that what was said here:

She tells the magazine. "I wasn't going to be a prostitute on film. I couldn't do that because it's such a stereotype about black women and sexuality."

is somewhat off base, when one considers all the other prostitute roles given to white women. If you ever talk to actresses, either black or white, they too will tell you: There is way too much prostitution in film, period. And, I agree. I still have not seen "Pretty Woman" because I hate the concept so much: Nice Prostitute meets Nice Rich Guy and Nice Prostitute Ends Up Happy. So, that's how a woman makes it in this country????

Movies like this help give middle school girls in this country the idea that growing up to be a prostitute is a very good thing. It's not a good thing. Not for black women; and not for white women; not for women, period.
