When our founding fathers debated the bill of rights by the light of a flickering candle over an open fire, do you think they had "auto detect", HA ... they had to detect for themselves and in those hallow halls of fiery fortitude, no spell checker was to be found, except perhaps the occasional busy body who used to teach English at the local school and was a little anal retentive to begin with.
