I need a bit of help from the members of the board. I was discussing the number of democrats who have been caught in scandals and did not resign vs republicans who did resign.

I was discussing the number of democrats who have been caught in scandals and did not resign vs republicans who did resign. I have a pretty long list of dems who did not resign but any additional names and circumstances of the scandal would only help reinforce my argument. Local politics is ok as well as state and national. If possible, just give names and nature of the scandal. Thanks guys

If you ever hear of a politician who isn't involved in some sort of scandal, let me know...

My point wasn't so much that republicans don't get caught in scandal as that when they get caught, they resign. I think that it isn't so much that the individual who gets caught has character as the party has the character necessary to reject those who get caught.
Dems let it slide and just say everyone does it so who wants to cast the first stone. Republicans tend to exile those who get caught.

N2Gems - Check your private mail. I have sent you a detailed message that is probably of little interest to Freepers in general, but hits your request squarely on the head. If you need any further information, send me a private e-mail.

Too bad the House doesn't keep real disciplinary records online or you could find it easily. (correct me if I'm wrong). Even the complete list of ABSCAM bribees and their convictions (and/or slaps on the wrists) is difficult to find but you can start with Reps Richard Kelly (FL), Frank Thompson (NJ), John Murphy (NY), and John Jenrette (SC) who actually resigned after being convicted.

Add Robert Sikes (FL) for bribery, misconduct, and owning undisclosed partnerships that gained him immense riches via bills he introduced into the House and got passed. He got a slap on wrist (official censure) and nobody ever taked about it again. Crime does pay.

M

Bayh, Birch, Indiana' US Senator,[former] Democrat
Bayh, Evan, former Indiana governor and present US Senator, also a Democrat. Activities related to the death of Mary Beth *Pixie* Grismore following a sexual affair with the elder Bayh while he was still in the Senate.

Numerous other Bayh administration scandals come to mind from the administration of Evan Bayh as a two-term Indiana governor, but the example listed here involved both the elder Bayh as an active participant, and his son as governor appointed several of the witnesses and investigators to various state positions in an apparant coverup of his father's involvement.

The young woman's murder was never solved, and there is no statute of limitations of the crime of murder in Indiana or Ohio.
