What Do You Think About.......

What do you think about the fact that we are doing everything we can as a nation to capture thug terrorists, but you can still walk over our southern border anytime, day or night, and never have to worry about being captured?

Many women are complaining, as I am, that we are being virtually molested at the airport prior to getting on an aircraft, and all in the name of national security, yet our southern border is as porous as it has ever been.

Doesn't that make you mad, all you ladies out there who have had a some guy's unwelcome hand on your body as he "pats" you down at the airport?

What about the fact that we have begun to allow our government to spy on each and everyone of us in ways that we never would have allowed prior to 9/11/01? A computer network of incredible power is listening to your calls. When it hears a keyword, the conversation will be flagged for humans to listen to, but while you were being monitored by government computers for the fist time in US history, people were running over the southern border, and some may well have been carrying a small part of a rocket, or a launcher for rockets like the one found by an airport recently.

Our government is creating a new security agency which will cost billions per year to operate. That wouldn't be a bad thing if they could ensure our security, but while they will be monitoring the lives of many if not most Americans, the southern border stands wide open like a huge gate on a ranch that is allowing dangerous bulls to escape into the pasture next door where little children are playing.

You should always include a link for more information when giving practical advice like that ;)

This airport search thing is out of hand. After my age 80 friends were subjected to three such searchs, getting on their plane, I decided no more for me. WE DON'T FLY ANYMORE!!!!!

Remember when it was considered a "sport" in the San Diego area for young men to shoot "beaners" with paintball guns. Hope they stopped because it sounded like it was gonna end up with real bullets being exchanged.

Oh its horrible for women. Those who are doing the searching are doing much more than searching! I can't believe this will stand much longer. Everyone is talking about how invasive the searches have become.

Don't you think the open southern border is a huge security risk?

I took a week and a half to see how a very early retirement would feel - it felt good. But now I'm back to work, so I can afford to do it for real...in about 25 more years ;)

Don't you think that if illegals aare a real and present danger we should use the military to round up those that are already here? If the ones that are thinking about crossing see "Elian" pictures multiplied by the thousands that would stop the flow of illegal gardeners immediately and the Border patrol could concentrate on the few "terrorists" that are willing to risk it. If we are going to get serious then By God let's get serious. All Bush needs to do is declare martial law and get the ball rollling. How about that?

Hey Barb, I'm and guy and guess what...I like being patted down by another guy even less than you do I bet. You know what I like even less...getting killed. Suck it up and deal with it because we won't be safe for a long time. Its an inconvienence that I'll gladly deal with not just for my safety but for your's and everyone else's. There's American men and women in uniform all across the world right now that stand to lose more than five minutes and a little personal dignity so you can make it to Witchita International Airport in one piece.

And what is the fixation with the Mexico-US border. The Sept. 11 demons came in through O'Hare and JFK with VISAs in hand. There's not a whole lot the Texas border patrol could have done about that. I've crossed the both the north and south US border many times, and Canada is a much easier and convienent border crossing. We can make things harder on illegal border crossing, but we will never plug every hole unless we become something akin to the Soviet Union in the 1960's. You may think that our government can or even will protect us all, but that is a dangerous illusion. As always, the average citizen is our most reliable defense. The best thing we can do is to stop the blame game, quit placing all our faith in a useless federal government, and keep our eyes and ears open.

I can see the Southern border as a huge security risk. Lest we forget the Canadian border too. Laws are already in place to "round up" the illegals, and the laws are not enforced. I would like to see the laws that were already in place before 9/11 being enforced before making any new ones that further erode individual rights. You make good points in your writing.

Your age 80 friends should expect to be strip searched (or whatever) because that way, no one could accuse the airport screeners of PROFILING.

They singled out my very American looking youngest daughter also at Hartsfield. AND her 12 year old son. So obviously no one could accuse them of PROFILING middle-east males.

Gee, I don't know.

Ask me how I feel about reading pretty much the same post every day from Barbara(one-note)14.

I think we're all pretty clear on your position. Now find a new topic or take a break.

Good question, just when are we going to do something about it? Like hit our perspective states capital steps and start screaming? As long as we take it, they think we like it, and they may be right.

Sadly, nothing will be done or said against these searches. People will get accustomed to it, and feel a false sense of security. Many American's polled feel it is neccesary to give up freedoms to board an aircraft. Just as they feel privacy is ok to give up.....many will just grow numb to it all. Gov't can only take what is "given" freely by it's citizens.....this is not good to say the least.
