Quickie: Toggle Word Wrap on Post Reply

You should now be able to toggle word wrap on and off in the post reply window. I will add similar functionality to post_article as soon as possible.

Let's see how well this thing works because that would be a really NICE feature ... hey groovy ... I think I prefer the preview check box already clicked so post is a one-click operation ... but that's just me ...

I don't get it. My words wrap just fine. Why would someone not want word wrap? This is a question that I've pondered in the past. If you don't want word wrap, you can just put a return at the end of each line or a < br >

What am I missing here? I really want to know.

BTW, while we're talking, when I do a self search, and this is the only place on FR I've noticed this, the replies scroll way way off the screen horizontally. I have to scroll left and right to be able to read each line. Why is that?

I don't get it. Wy would anyone NOT want to have their words wrap? If the words don't wrap, they scroll off the screen. I've noticed that feature in Microsoft's word pad and wondered. If you don't want word wrap, you can just put a return at the end of each line or a < br >

You would want to turn off word wrap if you're doing a lot of work with HTML. And I guess some people prefer to hit return at the line. It's an often requested feature.

BTW, the word wrap only affects the composition window-- when you post your reply, the reply on the thread WILL word wrap.

(I don't know why it put Bobby's name back in, I'll give it a whirl. Just tried now but it worked fine for the preview.)

Thank you for your reply. You lowered my blood pressure when you said the actual post WOULD word wrap. I had visions of having to scroll left and right all the time to read posts, and it's such a bore.

I asked you so many questions, you probably missed this one:

It's because somebody posted a very long line of characters without hitting the space bar, or they posted a very wide graphic. It's a technical problem because of the sidebar. If you remove your sidebar (turn off Subscriptions in your Settings) then it won't wrap like that... but you also won't have a sidebar. :-(

Or, you can view your comments in "Brief" mode which does not show the reply text that is causing the sidebar to get pushed off the screen.

What is with the check box about previewing? You have a preview button and a post button

It's a safety mechanism. Unless the safety is checked, clicking Post will force you to preview. But if you know what you are doing, you can short-circuit the forced preview by checking the safety. Like the safety mechanism on a gun, it is there to prevent you from shooting yourself in the foot.

BTW, the JavaScript for the onKeyPress event of this textarea should look mighty familar. :-) Thanks!
