Bill and Hillary Clinton showed up at a party honoring slain WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl, and one attendee tells the Scoop that the former president looks like hes dropped 20 pounds. He looked pretty fit.. MSNBC.
These people really have no shame, do they? When did he lose the weight, anyway? He seemed his usual bloated, bulbous self when he was in Ireland last week.
Memo to the Fun Couple (that's lovable hometown movie queen Sharon Stone and her consort, semi-popular, balding, paunchy Phil Bronstein). Subject: Missed Deadline. Sharon, Phil: If you're going to sue the L.A. Zoo over that dragon bite, you're going to need a judge's permission. That's the word from Franc Orozco in the L.A. City Attorney's office.
This week is the one-year anniversary of the L.A. Zoo incident in which Phil walked barefoot into a Komodo dragon's cage, apparently acting out some sort of bizarre Father's Day rite, and was bitten on the toe by the bacteria-laden teeth of the awful beast, charmingly named Komo.
Sharon seems to regard the horrifying incident as some sort of archetypal struggle in which her husband wrestled with the forces of nature. "Very few people's husbands actually go and fight a dragon. Mine would, wouldn't he? It has a certain mythological proportion," she told USA Today.
The dragon probably viewed it as a home invasion.
Anyway, when Sharon uttered these sentiments, which lay her open to serious charges of anthropocentrism, stereotyping and woeful species imperialism, she also sounded as if she were gearing up for a lawsuit. She told the newspaper that Phil has "a permanent disability" from the bite, and that he is unable to run barefoot on the beach. And he limps. At least one of these probably counts as some sort of conjugal impairment for which damages could be sought. But it's too late now. The deadline for filing claims has passed. You'll need special permission from a judge now to sue. ...
And how is Komo? Doing well, and seeking justice before the bar of Nature's Law, which respects no species over another, and knows no deadlines, only the seasons. ... SF Examiner.
The LAT/WP thread is the one I was talking about. I guess people are just passionate about what they believe in.
I think most of all it's me being female watching men discuss things. They can seem vitriolic and call each other all kinds of names but still remain friends. It's fascinating to watch.
Maybe the article meant to say he dropped a 20 pound weight, and was having a fit.
These Jedi mind tricks his handlers come up with are getting tiring, they only work on the weak-willed. :)
A New Orleans woman could be jailed for calling the emergency services when her dog stopped breathing.
Camille Wood said her three-year-old had fallen ill but the youngster turned out to be her mixed-breed dog, Aurora Faye. The fire brigade, police and ambulance service were sent out after the 19-year-old called rescue services in Covington.
She has admitted saying her daughter had stopped breathing but says she often refers to her pets as if they were children. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that after explaining they were not trained in canine recovery, sheriffs deputies escorted her to an animal hospital where the dog recovered.
Wood has been cited for misusing the emergency number by leading dispatchers to believe her dog was a child. The misdemeanour carries a fine of up to $500 and 30 days in jail. She said: "I have two sons and two daughters, and they're all animals."
She says she made it clear she was seeking help for a dog about 20 seconds into the call. "They asked me if her skin was turning blue, and I told them I couldn't tell because she is a dog and is covered in hair," she adds. "If I intended to mislead them about the species of my daughter, I would not have said she was a dog."
St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman James Hartman said: "While we understand that many people regard their pets as members of the family, summoning lifesaving personnel via 911 is inappropriate to say the least." Ananova

Good one on the Matalin question!!
...you may know that Saudi Arabias King Fahd is in Geneva, to be medically cared for. There is a fine mosque there. He asked the city fathers for permission to build another one. They replied: Yes when it is possible to build a church in Riyadh.
