pyx: I know a guy who was banned for offering up a not so terribly controversial POLITICAL OPINION during the nightly women's masturbation fest titled 'a day in the life of William Jefferson Clinton George W. Bush. In fact, the way it was relayed to me was, that it was in fact offered as a COMPLIMENT of President Bush's ability to remain focussed on many serious threats at one time.

Can you imagine that ?!? Someone actually having the timerity of offering up a POLITICAL OPINION on Free Republic ? Or someone actually dissenting from the prevailing one of the hour ? Or someone disagreeing without using a stream of invectives or four letter words ? Why if enough of that happens, Free Republic may have a return to the days of healthy political debate and insight.

But I won't hold my breath waiting.

Rintense,
I thought you'd like to comment on this posting.

Yeah, well, as many here seem to forget, there is a fine line between political OPINION and political slander and flamming. Like Grandma always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Otherwise, be prepared b!tch-slapped by any and all.

If this refers to a man I know who did object to the nightly fest (I'll defer from using the adjective as it is offensive, but describes the tone rather well) he did it with wit and intelligence. Never had to use foul language, and provided a hearty laugh to the toes for those of us who found the Bush threads offensive.

The man was not banned; he took a step back from Free Republic, when someone hit the abuse button. I left, and have never made a donation since. JimRob pulled the thread, and as I contacted him about it, he wrote to tell me that he was up to his ears in people hitting the abuse button. He was hot under the collar, and not a little fed up with people who cannot handle things without hitting the abuse button.

As for the saying "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" imagine where we would be if we followed that admonishment!?! Will refrain from saying what I truly think about it. Ther would be no America if that were the case, now would there?!? Sooner or later you develop the ability to handle such things wih wit and class.

Suppose when you decide to call rintense you call everyone involved? All people do appreciate the chance to respond and defend themselves. Especially when not all the details are revealed. And though I detest the word, no one was "b!tch slapped" or whatever that offensive term was used by rintense.
