Stone Cold Steve Austin walks
WWE.com ^ | June 14, 2002 | WWE.com

Posted on 06/14/2002 8:52:25 AM PDT by southern rock

On March 18, 2002, the day after WrestleMania, without company approval and without notice, Stone Cold Steve Austin walked off the job and failed to appear at WWE’s Raw show in Montreal. Stone Cold Steve Austin was advised by WWE management that this was unprofessional and unacceptable. After a two week hiatus, Austin returned to work.

On Monday, June 10, 2002, Stone Cold Steve Austin again failed to appear for the scheduled Raw event in Atlanta, instead choosing to return home to San Antonio without notice and without company approval.

Although Steve was unhappy with his character’s creative direction, Steve made the personal and unprofessional decision not to report to work to address his concerns.

Therefore, Stone Cold Steve Austin is no longer an active member of WWE’s talent roster.

Scripted, yes. But a lot of those injuries are all too real.

Do you think the Austin walkout was genuine or a storyline? Since its about 10 times more clever than anything the writers have come up with in a long time, I'm inclined to believe it's real. Who knows, maybe it'll be a lucky break that will force the WWE to push some young talent (RVD, anyone?). Then again, probably not.

Thanks for not using a picture of Flair with his shirt off.

Have you ever seen Flair and Hogan in the ring at the same time? I never thought I'd see that much sagging old man flesh on TV, and hope I never will again.

It's real. Usually, when they step out of the storyline to discuss the storyline (like with Bret Hart), it's for real.

I just caught the very end of confidential. I saw something about walking out twice, and a real angry McMahon and Jim Ross.

I couldn't believe it when I found out it was StoneCold.

Hogan has spent way too much time in the tanning booth, IMO.

Police called to Austin home last night

by Dave Meltzer

Dave@wrestlingobserver.com

Police were called to the home of Steve Williams (Steve Austin) at 4 a.m. last night when wife Debra called claiming she had been attacked. Steve was gone by the time police arrived, and saw Debra with a welt under her left eye and bruises to her shoulders and back. She told the police she was reluctant to call because of her husband's celebrity status but that things like this had happened before. This was reported earlier tonight on the KMOL News (NBC affiiliate) in San Antonio.

San Antonio police would neither confirm nor deny the story because if it was true, they don't release names when suspects are still at large and no charges have been filed.

According to the police report, they were called to the house and found the alleged victim at the front door crying with a large welt under her right eye. She said that she had been hit several times on her back and police found bruises on her back and her right shoulder. She said this occurred after an argument and then when she called police, he left the house. Debra refused medical attention and told police she was very nervous about calling them because of her husband's celebrity status.

Thanks to Patty Therre, Nick Warmack and Brad Hughes and KMOL News.

They don't call him the orange goblin for nothing.

BTW, when Mr. McMahon starts hitting the tanning booth, means he's going to wrestle (as was the case last Monday)

Confidential is fast becoming one of my favorite WWFE shows. Reality in wrestling, what a concept.

Good to see Bobby "The Brain" Heenan again. Bummer about his throat cancer.

I wonder if his outburst was related to the Confidential show. I'm sure Steve never dreamed that McMahon would go on national T.V. with a very public firing. Steve probably thought he would get a call from a humble McMahon offering full creative control over his character. When WWE management called his bluff, I'm sure he went nuts.

From www.prowrestlingtorch.com :

Pat McNeill, Torch columnist June 16, 2002 9:50 am

KMOL-TV, the local NBC affiliate in San Antonio, Texas, is reporting that Debra Williams, the wife of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (Steve Williams) called police early Saturday morning and claimed that Austin had beaten her.

According to a police report obtained by KMOL-TV (Channel 4), Austin left the scene, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette, before police could speak to him. The San Antonio Police Department contacted Austin via his cellular phone and asked him to return to the scene. Austin refused to do so.

Debra reportedly suffered bruises around her eyes and on her shoulder blade. She told police that Austin had beaten her before, but that she had not contacted the police previously due to Austin's celebrity status.

The call was placed at 4 AM Saturday morning. Ms. Williams declined to press charges against her husband.

Eloy Espinoza, the assignment editor for KMOL-TV, confirmed that his station ran the story last night during their 10 PM newscast. Espinoza told PWTorch.com that his station has been unable to reach either Debra or Austin for comment.
