I remember a place like that. Wildflecken, Germany. When I was assigned there, I swear that you had to walk uphill (often through the snow and ice) to get from the barracks to the NCO Club. Then, after hoisting a few, I'm sure that I had to walk uphill, through the snow and ice, to get back to the barracks.
