Question for Houston area Freepers

Fellow oppressed drivers:

All Houston area drivers are now required to pay for expensive, time-consuming tests on their vehicles in order to get the stupid, required inspections stickers. In a Houston Chronicle areticle about this, they said that inspection sites in the surrounding counties should check a vehicle's county of registration to prevent people from circumventing this requirement by getting their stickers outside of Harris County.

This info, of course, will give people the idea of doing just that. The article does not say it is illegal to do this, either for the inspectors or the Harris County resident, but does anyone know? Is it legal to drive to another county in the state and get your safety sticker, or not? They can "discourage" us all they want, but unless it's actually illegal to do it, why not?

Here is the law as I understand it.

There are several counties that have the new emission testing requirements. Harris County (Houston), several counties in the Dallas area, and one county near El Paso.

Any car registered in Harris County can only be tested in Harris County or any other county where the new testing requirements are in place. Therefore, it would be illegal to have a Harris County registered car tested in Fort Bend, Waller, or other neighboring counties. However, next year at this time, some of the surrounding counties of Harris will then be required to use the new emissions testing, unless this piece of (deleted) law is revoked.

My recommendation, start planning NOW to have your vechile tested, count on taking a day vacation from work, and let's get this piece of (deleted) revoked.

I live in Harris County and work in Galveston County. A local inspection station near where I work would not inspect my vehicle because it is registered in Harris County.

Ouch! Thanks for the info. I really resent these fascists. I wonder why we let them enslave us through our cars, which should be a means of freedom. How many more tests, stickers, fees, etc. will we put up with?
